When talking about Iceland, I can't help but remember two specific artists, Bjork and Sigur Ros. These are experimental artists with a very typical Icelandic downtempo sound.
This band practices a genre called post-rock, which has a more atmospheric and dense sound thanks to the spatial distortions of the guitars but Sigur Ros is a bit different from the rest of the bands of this genre, such as the vocalist and The band's guitarist usually uses a bow to play the guitar producing a very special sound.
Cuando se habla de Islandia no puedo evitar recordar dos artistas en específico, Bjork y Sigur Ros. Estos son artistas experimentales y con un sonido downtempo muy típico de Islandia.
Esta banda practica un género llamado post-rock, el cual tiene un sonido más atmosférico y denso gracias a las distorsiones espaciales de las guitarras pero Sigur Ros es un poco distinto al resto de las bandas de este género, como por ejemplo, el vocalista y guitarrista de la banda suele usar un arco para tocar la guitarra produciendo un sonido muy especial.
Sigur Ros's career begins to shine with Ágætis byrjun released in 1999 counting hits like Starálfur, Olsen Olsen and Flugufrelsarinn. In this album the sound of the band is already defined, a post-rock that is not afraid to experiment, with classic, electronic, environmental and other sounds that make this band unique. Also the performance of the vocalist Jonsi has made a difference with many bands, using a kind of gibberish when singing.
Years later they release their album (), which is sung entirely in volenska, a fictitious language that seeks to adapt to the listener's ears and he must interpret what is being sung. At the end of the artwork that comes with the disc there are some blank pages to be able to write down our interpretations of the volenska song.
La carrera de Sigur Ros empieza a brillar con Ágætis byrjun lanzado en 1999 contando con éxitos como Starálfur, Olsen Olsen y Flugufrelsarinn. En este álbum el sonido de la banda ya está definido, un post-rock que no le tiene miedo a experimentar, con sonidos clásicos, electrónicos, ambientales y demás que hacen a esta banda única. También la ejecución del vocalista Jonsi ha marcado una diferencia con muchas bandas, usando una especie de galimatías al momento de cantar.
Años más tarde lanzan su álbum (), que es cantado completamente en volenska, un idioma ficticio que busca adaptarse a los oídos del oyente y este debe interpretar lo que se está cantando. Al final del arte que viene con el disco hay unas páginas en blanco para poder anotar nuestras interpretaciones del canto volenska.
With Takk ... they achieve a completely solid sound they create a much denser musical atmosphere with almost heavenly melodies as in the Glósóli song, which gives us a slow song that moves little by little until it reaches an explosion of unimaginable auditory beauty. This is my favorite Sigur Ros album as it has the best songs, the best atmosphere and a powerful spirituality.
After this album the career of this band took off, being part of numerous movie soundtracks, selling thousands of records and being one of the most important artists in the indie scene and the most important in the post-rock scene.
Con Takk… logran un sonido completamente solido crean una atmosfera musical mucho más densa con melodías casi celestiales como en la canción Glósóli que nos otorga una canción lenta que va moviéndose poco a poco hasta llegar a una explosión de una belleza auditiva inimaginable. Este es mi álbum favorito de Sigur Ros ya que cuenta con las mejores canciones, la mejor atmosfera y una potente espiritualidad.
Después de este álbum la carrera de esta banda despego, siendo parte de numerosas bandas sonoras de películas, vendiendo miles de discos y siendo uno de los artistas más importantes en la escena indie y el más importante de la escena post-rock.
With the Valtari album, very much in line with Takk ... but much more emotional, they managed to make an experimental film that has the entire album as a soundtrack. I remember seeing some of the videos on this album and I can assure you that they are very reflective and different from each other, achieving a great impact on an audiovisual level.
Sigur Ros is a band that has achieved the difficult task of creating its own sound in an age where artists are a copy of a trend. They have never been afraid to experiment but always managing to create that enveloping and atmospheric sound that characterizes the band so much. As I said before, this band is also very enjoyed from the audiovisual aspect, with a couple of visual productions such as Helma, which is a film and can be taken as a documentary of the band as well, and Valtari Film Experiment.
The band works for reflective moments, of relaxation and has known how to move very well in the cinematographic field being part of numerous films and own productions. In conclusion, it is a band that I recommend if you like minimalist aesthetics, simplicity, tranquility, downtempo and musical beauty. This is a band that I have personally listened to many times and has been part of my day to day. Skold !!
Con el disco Valtari, muy en la línea del Takk… pero mucho más emotivo, lograron hacer una película experimental que lleva todo el álbum como banda sonora. Recuerdo ver algunos de los videos de este álbum y puedo asegurar que son muy reflexivos y diferentes entre sí, logrando un gran impacto a nivel audiovisual.
Sigur Ros es una banda que ha logrado la difícil tarea de crear un sonido propio en una época donde los artistas son una copia de alguna tendencia. Nunca han temido a experimentar pero siempre logrando crear ese sonido tan envolvente y atmosférico que tanto caracteriza a la banda. Como dije anteriormente, esta banda se disfruta mucho también desde el aspecto audiovisual, contando con un par de producciones visuales como Helma, que es una película y puede tomarse como un documental de la banda también y Valtari Film Experiment.
La banda funciona para momentos reflexivos, de relajación y ha sabido moverse muy bien en el terreno cinematográfico siendo parte de numerosas películas y producciones propias. En conclusión es una banda que recomiendo si te gusta la estética minimalista, la simpleza, la tranquilidad, el downtempo y la belleza musical. Esta es una banda que personalmente he escuchado muchas veces y ha formado parte de mi dia a dia. Skold !!
