Shipping goods from china to Africa can take up to 3 months which I a very long time to transport goods. This goods make their way down to any country using cargo especially. A lot of ships leave the harbor of one country to another transporting goods, when this goods arrive in the countries, trucks are responsible for over 95% of the carriage but recently, this trucks aren’t enough to carry this goods. With the increase in commerce and usage of humans coupled with the fact that most goods get damage easily recently causing an increase in demand (just joking), there are now more goods to be cleared and carried than the trucks available.
In my country, trucks are responsible for damage of roads as they carry heavy goods (although, the roads are of low quality) as well as road accidents. Trucks are becoming something of concern as they are also slow in delivering the goods to their destination. With all this said, what will be the solution to delivering goods.
Automated Goods Drone
This has been the solution that a lot of businesses have been proposing, a drone that can carry heavy goods and travel long distance. Although a few ecommerce and delivery companies like Amazon started using drones but it hasn’t been something of reality in Africa. Drone is believed to break the global supply chain bringing speed and ease to delivery and carriage.
Amazon brought a change to the shipping and delivery industry with its 1 day Prime shipping, customers do not care to pay more to get their goods to them early, what they care about is speed. Getting the goods to them fast with cargo planes and drones instead of Ships and trucks. Although airfreights are quite expensive, people do not really care whenever they are shipping high quality goods or during emergency.
Conclusion
It could take a ship about 28 to 40 days to move goods from china to the United States by ship but about 14 hours by flight but its major problem is cost. The cost to airfreight is often twice the cost for a shipping using ship.
