Sashimi or sasyimi is a Japanese food in the form of seafood with excellent freshness which is eaten raw with spices such as soy sauce, grated ginger, and wasabi.

Fresh seafood such as fish, scallops and crayfish are served in small, easy-to-eat slices, while there are small prawns which are simply peeled and head removed.

Tsuma is a term for food additives in the form of very finely chopped radishes, green leaves called Oba (Aojizo), or seaweed such as Wakame and Tosakanori.

Sashimi also means enjoying something raw, from raw cuts of Horse meat (Basashi), chicken meat (Torisashi), chicken liver or beef liver, to pieces of konnyaku and beancurd called Yuba.

In the Kansai region, sashimi is better known as O-tsukuri.
