Palestinian poet/ National Treasure, Mourid Barghouti, passed away, on Valentine’s Day, to join his beloved wife, novelist Radwa Ashour.
At the age of 76, Barghouti, a poet of exile, was 4 years older than the state of Israel and wrote movingly about the tragedy of occupation / oppression.
In his acclaimed autobiographical novel, I Saw Ramallah, the revered poet describes returning to Palestine for the first time in three decades, this way:
The homeland does not leave the body until the last moment, the moment of death.
‎The fish,
‎Even in the fisherman's net,
‎Still carries
‎The smell of the sea.
Rest, now, blessed poet 🕊
