Sometimes, the things we disregard end up being useful. This was the case with a leftover fabric @belemo had used sometime last year. Being a tailor, you often see potential in every piece of fabric laying around and find it hard to discard because you just might need it someday. I thought of what to do with this 1¼ yard fabric and an off the shoulder dress came to mind because it would need less fabric than usual.
I got to work and drafted out my off-shoulder pattern on brown paper using my measurements. I opted for a princess dart bodice pattern to get a more form fitting dress.
I then placed the paper pattern on the fabric and cut along the edges.
I used same pattern paper to cut the lining and breast pad.
I then joined all pieces together to form the front bodice.
Same was done for the back pattern only without the extra breast room because, duh, I don't have breasts on my back. I also fixed the zip on the back panel.
Next was to attach the bottom half of the dress. I cut out a skirt pattern with back and front panels, adding darts to align with that of the top piece. I then joined top and bottom together, fabric to fabric and lining to lining for a neat finish in and out.
The side seams and hem were then closed neatly.
Here's the final result of barely two yards of fabric.
The little pieces of fabric left was used for a head tie
