HiveBloPoMo & NaBloPoMo wrap up for November 2020

Hard to believe it's been almost a week since November ended! But now that the month is over, and I've had time to think about it while working on the latest Hive Power Up Day (aka #HivePUD) extravaganza, I thought I'd put together a bit of a wrap up post for HiveBloPoMo & NaBloPoMo for today.

What are HiveBloPoMo & NaBloPoMo?

NaBloPoMo (aka National Blog Posting Month) started around 2010 as an offshoot of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). I did both back in November 2014 and lost my brain discovered NaBloPoMo was a great way to kickstart my blog.

At the end of March 2019, I was inspired to start a blockchain version called SteemBloPoMo for the month of April (NaBloPoMo traditionally runs in both November and April). When I moved house to the Hive blockchain, I quickly put together the first HiveBloPoMo (along with the Hive and Twitter accounts). Given the timing of what was happening in April of 2020, my heart wasn't truly in it, and participation was fairly low, but at least it was a start. It also made it easier to get things going for this November 2020 round.

Who participated on Hive?

From what I can see, we had ten people total (myself included) who posted using the #HiveBloPoMo tag during November. There were instances of people mistakenly using "NaBloPoMo" and some didn't have the #HiveBloPoMo as one of their first 5 tags, so it made it somewhat challenging to track, but since there wasn't really a reason to monitor it (no prizes or incentives offered), I didn't fret too much about it.

Some posted all thirty days. Some posted just a few. All were appreciated!

The list (in order of the first to post in the feed)

How many posts were there?

Again, I'm sure there are some that I missed reblogging through @hiveblopomo for the aforementioned reasons, but I counted 192 posts total!

Who participated on WordPress?

I actually didn't bump into any of my WP friends who used the tag, and the few times I checked the tag on Twitter, there didn't seem to be many people doing it. I might try to boost the signal for April - seems to me the tag has kind of ebbed and flowed over the years.

What about me personally?

I managed to post daily on my WordPress blog (so, I "won" NaBloPoMo!) which automatically posted to Hive via the @exxp plugin (so, I "won" HiveBloPoMo too!). There were a handful of occasions that I posted twice in the same day (specifically for the Hive Power Up Days) and since I did those posts through the @leofinance, they didn't show up on my WordPress blog, so that means I had 30 total WP posts, and 34 total Hive posts.

OH! And almost forgot - I also did My Crypto Story: How Crypto and Blockchain Technology Impacted my Finances separately on both Hive and WP, but since I posted using the LeoFinance frontend, then copy/pasted it to my WP blog, my WP friends can't see the comments and payout. Thought I'd include a screencap here, since I think it's one of the top ten post payouts I've ever had!

HiveBloPoMo & NaBloPoMo wrap up for November 2020
358 people upvoted the post to $53.51 (approximately) and there were 17 comments. Not too shabby!

I am a bit bummed though, as I missed out on scoring another @hivebuzz Monthly Author badge, because I completely spaced (early in the month) that the 24 hour UTC time to post got pushed back an hour thanks to our local Daylight Savings stupidity Time thing. However, I plan to plan more carefully for April, and might even give this another unofficial go in January to warm up a bit.

As for my NaBloPoMo on my WordPress blog, while I didn't keep a close eye on my stats, I do know that blogging every day definitely bumped up my visitor count nicely.
HiveBloPoMo & NaBloPoMo wrap up for November 2020
From an average of 2,100 visitors per month (June to October) to 2,756 visitors in November. Fairly respectable, I think. 😊

What's next?

I'll post at some point during the last week of March 2021 to remind everyone that April will be the next go round. I might ask around to see if some Hive curators would like to keep their eyes open for the tag, but as I've said before, I see this as more of a personal challenge, and not a way to get big upvotes.

Speaking of upvotes...

I wanted a way to say, "thank you & congratulations" to everyone who jumped aboard on Hive, whether it was for three posts or thirty. But instead of upvotes, I decided (thanks to the awesome generosity of @theycallmedan for supplying me with some liquid Hive) to send 5 Hive to everyone who took part. I'll be sending it along shortly (I'll start as soon as I've finished my Hive Power Up Day prize distribution) then I'll drop messages on everyone's latest posts as well, so you know why you're all suddenly so flush with cash! 😂

EDITED TO ADD: Just finished making it official...
