It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you, without a strong rhyme to step to, think of how many weak shows you slept through, times up, I'm sorry I left you.
Those were the words of Rakim of Erik B and Rakim fame, in their seminal hit "I Know You Got Soul". I've always loved those words, they've resonated with me in a way I found hard to articulate, now though I feel the words in a way I have never before. For whatever reasons I have been away from Hive for too long and it's beginning to burn me up because it's not just Hive I have forsaken, it is writing in general. I've abandoned my books, blogs and articles and it has been slowly eating me up inside.
It's not even like I'm saying those words to my audience, but more to myself; It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you...
Now it's time to return, this little missive represents something much larger than just a couple of paragraphs, it is my signal to the world and more importantly myself, that I'm back. I'm working on a couple of essays, a short(ish) one and quite a long in-depth one which I'm sure will be too long for one post. Both are looking at two popular but very different adult animations and how they reflect the world around us.
