Podping and V4V
Some people know what is going on with Podcasting and Hive, a lot probably have no idea as there is a lot of developing on the chain and it is hard to follow everything. I will try to give you some insight in the most lamer terms with probably a lot of misused terminology :D
- Podping
At the moment the only working way of decentralizing Podcast distribution to podcasting apps. The Podcast Index is doing all kind of cool things to make podcasting better. One of the things they tried to do is decentralize podcast indexing. In the group of bitcoin people @brianoflondon was pushing Hive 😀 And he did it, Podping is working, everyone can use it, no one can stop it, remove stuff from it and everyone can access it.
V4V (value for value)
V4V is a project that enables podcasting apps to use btc lightning network for easy Boosting (tipping) creator and easy way for "streaming" sats to creators by minutes played. And when i say easy, it is easy when you have everything set up. If you are a Podcaster that wants to enable this, you need to set up your own lightning node, open channels and all kind of crazy stuff that i have no idea how to do. But again @brianoflondon with help from @spknetwork, @threespeak made all 3speak videos into an RSS feeds (so you can find your video in every podcasting 2.0 app) and all 3speak videos can get sats on those apps (converted to Hive) with 0 effort.
You post a 3speak video and have an audience that finds your content valuable and want to reward you, sats in your wallet with ZERO setting up all the crazy things.
Having your own node is cool, but how many podcasters will run their own node? How many of them will make an Hive account and upload a video on 3speak?
A lot of people on Hive will say "but we can send tips with and also send patreon type recurring tips with no effort 2 clicks". We know that everyone will have a Hive account at the end, but they still don't so 😀
The point of this post starts here (took me long enough)
Brian was a guest on Podcasting Index podcast Podcasting 2.0 by Adam Curry and Dave Jones (that sounds weird) and he talked about Hive, Podping and V4V. If you are into podcasts, there is a good chance that you know who Adam is.
When i got this idea i had mixed expectations from "50 people will do this and it will be cool listening to all the Boosts from Hive community on the next episode" to "there are a lot of links and clicks and no one will do it".
Anyhow, if you want to test it out, see how it works, send some sats and love from Hive community here is how it works:
GO TO Podfriend, podcasting app
Make an account on the app.
When you make your account you will get few pop out windows explaining how you can use lightning network to reward podcasters and on the last one it will ask you to Enable my Wallet
Now you need to transfer some sats to the wallet. Go to your account in the upper right corner and click on Podcast Wallet
Here you will get and option to turn off the wallet or Add Funds to it
On the next one you will get some info on how to get some sats, but you can just ignore it, because Hive and go to the next one where you decide how much you want to transfer.
when you decide on the amount next thing you do is Copy Lightning invoice address
Now go to Hive Lightning exchange(https://lnd.v4v.app/) and past you Invoice
Chose do you want to use Hive or HBD, click on it and sign the transaction with Hive Keychain or Hivesigner.
The amount transferred is more then needed but you will get the change back to your Hive wallet. It is used because of changing prices of Hive and BTC.
30-40 sec later you will see a notification that Sats have been transferred. Or if you miss the pop out, you will just see that you have Sats in your wallet.
now the easy and fun part (rewarding other is fun? right?)
Find the podcast you want to listen (in this case https://web.podfriend.com/podcast/podcasting-20/4378250235) and start listening.
If you click on the gear button (not boost part but gear part)
you will get options to set up how much sats per minute played you want got give and how much you want to give with Boost button
If you click and hold (for a sec) the BOOST button you get an option to send a Boost with a signed message to a podcaster
So you can send some love from Hive Community.
Now as i finished writing this, i see that this could look scary, long and complicated 😂 it is really not.
If you got any of that sats left, you can reward any of the Hive 3speak creators just buy searching their Hive name on the app. I think @brianoflondon is still doubling the sats that 3Speak creators get.
In the end i want to mention Aureal cool podcasting app built with Hive integration. I know they are working hard to implement this lightning functions and 3speak videos. Hope the option will be there soon, as i do want to support Hive apps.
