On hive content is king but who are the king makers?(1 simple answer every newbie should know)

I have been doing some onboarding and I have been faced with a lot of questions from newbies.

I decided to have classes online and offline to help some newbies around me.

I asked them to make 20 comments a day and I got a host of reactions.

@sylviaijay said 20 is too much and went further to ask why she was making that much comment.

Another one could not see the purpose of commenting and was getting pissed.

So in this post, I will be talking about the role of engagement in the hive community.

What is engagement?

Engagement refers to interacting with people.

In this case, the people are the hive members.

This can be done via the hive dapps and other applications.

Engagement using hive dapps

This involves making posts, videos, commenting and interacting with communities via apps on the hive blockchain. Hive dapps include peakd,Hive.blog, ecency, 3speaks etc

Engagement using other applications

This involves using other applications to connect with other hive members.

The top of those applications on the list is discord. Discord is a chatting application on android, iOS and pc.

Most of the communities have a discord channel and this is what makes it useful for engagement and visibility.

Twitter: In the past year, hive has been using Twitter for publicity and so there are a lot of hashtags on Twitter. #hive and #posh are common tags.

Most people send the links to their posts on Twitter for visibility and awareness.

There are also meetings like #hivechat that hold on Twitter. This is the more reason why every hiver should have Twitter handy.

What are the benefits of Engagement on hive?

1. Navigation of the website or the hive dapps

Hive can be very complex at the beginning and if you don't move around, it will take a longer time to get a hang of it.

Commenting and engaging makes navigation better.
After, about 100 comments on any of the dapps, you should find navigation a lot easier.

2. Visibility.

Engaging on hive gives you visibility and helps with creating relationships. Relationship forming is key to success on hive.

I remember back when I started 4 years ago and all I did were contests. At a point when there were no contests, I would be miserable cos my post could not yield anything useful.

That time my post would struggle between 1 cent and 5 cents.

In summary, if you want to do well on hive, you need to engage more and trust me you will be smiling soon.

Remember content is king but the kingmakers are the relationships formed.

You need the kingmakers on hive.

Some useful tips

  • You don't have to understand what the person is writing about. Question asking is a form of interaction.

  • Commenting does not have to be serious. Just express yourself.

  • Hive is a social network, socialise!!

  • Engage consistently with a community and you will get their support.

  • Comments like nice post, very good will take you nowhere. Make reasonable comments and you will form relationships.

  • Consistency will always show on hive, and trust me it pays.
