Watercolor Color practice + Impromptu Kids Art Session

Hello lovely people! In line with the book I’m using to learn, I decided to practice using different shades of green. Well, that was my original plan for the day, and before I could finish up my painting, a trio of energy filled children burst into my home, lol. They’ve been super interested in learning how to ‘art’. It was a pleasant surprise seeing them around. They are between the ages of 8-12. I laughed a lot while drawing with them, they happily made fun of each other’s drawing lol.

Before we see the art they made, let’s dive into the color study I was working on ; )

The chapter I’m in was about how to mix green by using blue and yellow. I didn’t have all the hues of both colors. For example my yellows included cadmium yellow and neon (highlight) yellow. I made color markings on the paper as I mixed each color. It was a really fun exercise to be honest. I wasn’t too concerned with how to place my colors, but it still has a rhythm to it. A pic of what my palette looked like is below

Now, back to the kids! They really wanted to draw, but unfortunately I didn’t have normal drawing pencils I could spare, I was quite afraid to give them a 6B pencil considering how soft it is, and the amount of force children apply to paper when they draw lol. It sent shivers up my spine, so we settled for color pencils which worked well!

Our first subject was the image below which I got from Pinterest. We all sketched the image out together. Once we were done, i asked them what they felt could be better in the drawing, it was funny session as they kept throwing jabs at each other

The next drawing subject was a lotus bud. They finished drawing this pretty quickly and we photographed the drawings together.

I enjoyed drawing with em but it kinda makes me sad that they might need up pursuing career paths outside of art considering the amount of interest they show in it. But there’s still a lot of time ahead of them ; ) Plus the beauty of art is that it comes in any form, doesn’t have to be through drawing, painting, sculpture or graphic design. It’s present in engineering, architecture and even medicine. There’s a lot for them to explore!
