The bird for this piece is the Black- billed Magpie! The white primaries of the bird when stretched out in flight is what drew me to the bird. Originally I intended to paint a yellow bird as I saw one by chance today, and was super pained i wasn’t with my camera. It was a really pretty bird but I had the impulse to paint the Magpie’s wings instead.
A major reason was probably due to the anime I watched recently, “Vivy: Flourite Eye’s Song”. The main character, Vivy was super badass, and I couldn’t help but feel inspired by the story line and the main question which was posed over and over in the anime, which was “ What does is it mean to put your heart into something?” .
I myself wonder what the answer is every time, it’s something that can’t be quantified by words, but the response to the question in the anime, was basically channeling your experiences and memories that shape who you are into whatever it is you do!
The theme of the anime was Sci-fi and the clean cut edges of the wings of the magpie reminded me of something techy. I definitely recommend watching it!
PROCESS
Materials: Reeves gouache paint, Sinoart sketchbook, Winsor & Newton brushes
First thing I did was to create a sketch of the idea I had in mind
Next was laying my base colors
Alongside learning how to render fabric textures, I’m trying to learn how to draw different types of hair, rather than the types I’m used to
Close ups on the final piece!
