Busy Life, but lots of fun as well!

Despite a heavy work load, there is time for fun! One past Sunday we got together with some friends to ride horses and throw rocks, that is the Colombian national game of Tejo, or Turmeque.

This is quite a fun game, where contestants take in turn to throw rocks at a clay filled game board, 6 points for in the hole, 7 points for a topper in the whole, and 1 point for closest puck.

Here is a statue in honor of the game. This is serious stuff In Colombia.

It is a fun game which generally involves drinking beer and the losing team buys the next round.

Earlier that morning, we gathered in the local Plaza to buy some provisions, mainly corn and plantains to lay on the grill while playing.

We also received a surprise visit to our farm, a dear friend Martica, who rented me a room in her apartment in 2010 in Bogota. With her she brought a new friend Sergio, from Guainía, Colombia, one of the most rural areas of Colombia. They were happy to visit our farm and see all the plants and flowers we are working with.

I was able to practice quite a bit of basic German with Sergio over the few days he was in town. He was a great teacher and I can now say: Ich will Deutsch lernen.

Another fun encounter was meeting Captain Jack Sparrow, from those pirate movies. I met these two musicians in a coffee shop, they let me play the congo drums and taught me a few things as well. The one on the left is Tulio, from Venezuela, a very top notch first mate indeed with the drums and playing the tambourine with his feet. Captain Jack's name is Daniel, and he is from Chile.

I bought them each a beer and after they sang me a few songs, I gave them each 2000 pesos, about 50 cents USD. Then we took this picture:

These are just some of the adventures of the past few weeks, I have been working hard on both the road and the car, and I have everything ready for the long awaited update on the Charmelas and our Nissan Patrol!. So look forward to that.

Freedom and Friendship
