GRASSHOPPERS AND THORNS

On the 11th of September 2010, I spent some time around some iconic plants that grow on the dry and sunny terrain near the sea ...

... busy photographing the young grasshoppers that were well hidden among the thorns.

This is a relatively big, well-developed nymph ...

... of the Anacridium aegyptium grasshopper ...

... the main and only insect protagonist of this post.

I photographed two young Anacridium aegyptium individuals on that occasion.

One of them was surrounded by juicy yellow flowers on the Scolymus hispanicus thistle ...

... the other was hiding among the long, annoying thorns ...

I had three good pieces of equipment at my disposal back then.

The Canon EOS 350D camera ...

... Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens ...

... and the Canon Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX flash ...

... so I was able to take plenty of similar photographs ...

... lit in a slightly different way ...

... photographs in which the Anacridium aegyptium nymphs were caught in a few different poses.

While the adult grasshoppers all look the same ...

... the Anacridium aegyptium nymphs come in quite a few colors.

You'll see only the green version in this post ...

... but four days ago I published a post in which you can see the brown variation. Here is the link :

You can see the Anacridium aegyptium o the opening photograph of that post.

Another interesting variation was included in one of the older posts, published a month ago. In that post the photo is somewhere in the middle of a pretty long story, so I took the picture and I'm about to publish it here again.

This is the third version. The photograph was taken in August of 2021.

Early this morning, when I started preparing the old shots from 2010 ...

(Enlargeable)

... I couldn't resist the temptation to play a bit with some options in Photoshop ...

... so these two deviant images also ended up in the post.

AND THAT'S IT.

AS ALWAYS IN THESE POSTS ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK - THE END.
