Transformers One Universal Studios Optimus Prime Less Than Meets the Eye

Transformers One Universal studios Optimus Prime seems to be quite lacking in the “this toy feels solid” area. In fact, if the video below is anything to go by, it is certainly not “all there” to say the least. I can say it appears to have a decently simple transformation process so, yay?

Less Than Meets the Eye

Back in my day, I was born in 1976, toys were mostly die-cast of some sort. Sure they had plastic to them (looking at you Cy-Kill from Go-Bots) but for the most part, if you got hit with a toy back then (Voltron lion, anyone?) you FELT it. Toys back then were durable, and somewhat dangerous.

They were all there. Sure, we didn’t have posing options outside the deer in the headlights look, but they had “weight” to them.

Pick up an original Starscream or Optimus Prime and tell me they were hollow. Okay, probably were but not as bad as this Transformers One Universal studios Optimus Prime figure.

Holy moly, this is empty. It is almost like this started out as a sand mold for kids to take to the beach and someone at Hasbro said, “we can charge more if we make it transform” and bam, some very basic articulation was added.

Check the video below to see just how hollow.

Who Was the Intended Audience?

Surely this is an introductory option of some sort. I followed the link that YouTube creator, Mangmotion provided in the description of his video but it does not bring up this specific Optimus Prime (it doesn’t bring up an Optimus Prime at all). I tried searching various combinations of their wording on that site and could not find this specific Optimus Prime either.

Same for both Walmart.com and Amazon’s online stores. I am not sure where you would get this version of Optimus if you were wanting him for your collection, or to give a younger fan to play with.

Don’t get me wrong here, I am happy we have a WIDE selection of options for just about every Transformer and fan of them and price points to match. It is great.

Just sometimes, the mark was completely missed somehow. I think that is where Transformers One Universal studios Optimus Prime sits – a complete miss.
