What is the Difference Between Liquidity and Volume? EN/TR

EN:
Hello there. In this post, we will talk about two concepts. Liquidity and trading volume. If we learn such concepts well, we can better understand the field of economics and finance. First, let's define what these terms mean one by one. However, these recipes should be in a language that we can understand, not in the language of school science. Just like we described an order book with tomatoes in one of our previous posts.

What is liquidity?
Liquidity means something like "fluidity". It describes the ease and speed of converting an asset into cash. Our house has low liquidity. However, the liquidity of the stock in our portfolio is high. There are many technical definitions. But let's not go into details.

What is the volume?
We call the sum of the value of the assets in a market and the purchase and sale of the 'trading volume'. For example; Let's say a $10-a-piece tomato changes hands once. Let the tomato costing $1 each change hands twice. Tomatoes, which are $10 apiece, have a higher transaction volume. Because on the first one, you make a $10 transaction. The second time, a $2 transaction took place.

Let's leave companies, central banks and countries out of business. What does all this information mean for us ordinary individuals? Especially investment, trade etc. for people engaged in business. We want an asset to have high liquidity and trading volume. It's easy to get when we want to buy. Let it be sold quickly when we want to sell. So both concepts are important to us.

A high trading volume of an asset does not necessarily indicate high liquidity. We need to check the order book well. How much will the price drop if we want to sell some of the assets we have? Or we can think the opposite; How much of an asset can we buy without causing the price to rise too high?

The markets suddenly tumbled. Everyone was worried about selling what they had. The concept of liquidity will come in handy here. Of course, if we checked beforehand. Trading volume indicates how much interest there is in a stock, cryptocurrency or any commodity. Continuity in transaction volume is important. Excessive decreases/increases in transaction volume are signs of a problem.

Let's not stretch the topic too much. I would be happy if you ask about the places you have in mind as a comment. There will definitely be friends who can explain better than me. Hope to see you in new posts.

TR:
Merhaba.

Piyasalar birden allak bullak oldu.
