[ESP/ENGL] Cinco sabios refranes venezolanos (Número 56)

Nuevamente les saludo, en este Lunes 13 de Febrero 2023, para ofrecerles la edición número 56 de mi seriado Cinco Sabios Refranes Venezolanos, un conjunto de posts orientados a rescatar, divulgar y resguardar una parte fundamental de la tradición oral venezolana, como son LOS REFRANES.

Es importante resaltar el valor de los refranes. Muchas personas piensan que sólo son elementos de color en la cultura de un país, pero más allá de eso, los refranes son una especie de “fotografía” de las sociedades en cierto momento histórico, pues condensan elementos que están vigentes en un lapso de tiempo específico. Es por tal motivo que en ocasiones entran en desuso, porque algunos son muy temporales, pero otros, por el contrario, son atemporales y se mantienen en el tiempo. Lo cierto es, que independientemente de su temporalidad o atemporalidad, los refranes contienen un alto nivel de sabiduría, y en una breve frase, dan enseñanzas muy valiosas.

Voy a decir lo que siempre reitero: Estos refranes no son inventados por mí, pues son parte de la tradición oral venezolana, por lo que los compilo en mis conversaciones con otras personas, o recurro a literatura especializada como la señalada en la Bibliografía de este post. No obstante, yo sí los presento y analizo, eso sí es totalmente de mi creación. 1) “Brinca más que un trompo carretero.”

Este es un refrán algo despectivo, porque se utiliza en los siguientes casos: Para referirse a personas que son muy andariegas, inestables, que no permanecen en un trabajo o en un sitio; o también para indicar que una persona baila muy mal. Y esta comparación se debe, a que cuando un trompo tiene la punta desalineada, o sea, que no está equilibrado, no gira sobre su eje de forma fluida, sino que brinca, salta, de manera desordenada y fea.

2) “Cría cuervos y te sacarán los ojos.”

Pienso que este refrán no es venezolano en sí mismo, sino que es más universal, pues en Venezuela no hay cuervos, los cuervos viven generalmente en Europa o Norteamérica, así que su origen no es venezolano; no obstante, su mensaje o enseñanza es universal, ya que indica la ingratitud de parte de alguien a quien se ha favorecido, y no sólo se refiere a los hijos, sino a cualquier relación humana, en la cual se presente dicha situación de traición e ingratitud.

3) “El negro es negro, aunque lo pinten de blanco.”

Lo que es evidente no se puede ocultar. Este es un refrán para recalcar ese hecho, y es similar al que dice: “Tapar el Sol con un dedo”, o el otro que dice “Mona aunque se vista de seda, mona se queda”. Hay cosas que no pueden ocultarse o disfrazarse.

4) “Eso quisiera el sapo, que lo tiraran al pozo.”

Un sapo obviamente se sentirá muy feliz dentro de un pozo, porque es su hábitat, por lo que le gustaría mucho que lo aventasen allí. Y con este refrán, se indica que se conocen las intenciones que pueda tener una persona, para obtener beneficio propio, aunque ese individuo trate de ocultar esa intención.

5) “Esa leche tiene agua.”

En ocasiones, aquellos que venden leche fresca de vaca, leche de ordeño, la adulteran añadiéndole agua, lo cual es engañar, robar al comprador, porque le estarían vendiendo un producto adulterado; así que cuando se usa este refrán, se está recalcando la falsedad de una persona, situación, asunto o negocio.

Once again I greet you, on this Monday, February 13, 2023, to offer you the 56th edition of my series Five Wise Venezuelan Sayings, a set of posts aimed at rescuing, disseminating and safeguarding a fundamental part of the tradition. Venezuelan oral, such as THE SAYINGS.

It is important to highlight the value of sayings. Many people think that they are only colored elements in the culture of a country, but beyond that, proverbs are a kind of "photograph" of societies at a certain historical moment, as they condense elements that are current in a period of time. specific. It is for this reason that they sometimes fall into disuse, because some are very temporary, but others, on the contrary, are timeless and are maintained over time. The truth is that regardless of their temporality or timelessness, sayings contain a high level of wisdom, and in a short sentence, they give very valuable teachings.

I am going to say what I always reiterate: These proverbs are not invented by me, since they are part of the Venezuelan oral tradition, which is why I compile them in my conversations with other people, or I resort to specialized literature such as the one indicated in the Bibliography of this post. 1) “Jump more than a carter spinning top.”

This is a somewhat derogatory saying, because it is used in the following cases: To refer to people who are very wandering, unstable, who do not stay in a job or in a place; or also to indicate that a person dances very badly. And this comparison is due to the fact that when a top has a misaligned tip, that is, it is not balanced, it does not rotate on its axis in a fluid way, but jumps, jumps, in a messy and ugly way.

2) “Raise crows and they'll gouge out your eyes.”

I think that this saying is not Venezuelan in itself, but rather it is more universal, since in Venezuela there are no crows, crows generally live in Europe or North America, so their origin is not Venezuelan; however, its message or teaching is universal, since it indicates ingratitude on the part of someone who has been favored, and it does not only refer to children, but to any human relationship, in which said situation of betrayal and ingratitude are present.

3) “Black is black, even if they paint it white.”

What is obvious cannot be hidden. This is a proverb to emphasize that fact, and it is similar to the one that says: “Cover the sun with one finger”, or the other that says “Mona even if she dresses in silk, Mona is remains”. There are things that cannot be hidden or disguised.

4) “That's what the toad would like, to be thrown into the well.”

A toad will obviously be very happy in a well, because it is their habitat, so they would very much like to be dumped there. And with this saying, it is indicated that the intentions that a person may have are known, for their own benefit, even if that individual tries to hide that intention.

5) “That milk has water.”

On occasions, those who sell fresh cow's milk, milking milk, adulterate it by adding water, which is cheating, robbing the buyer, because they would be selling an adulterated product; so when this saying is used, the falsehood of a person, situation, issue or business is being emphasized.
