[ESP/ENGL] Cinco sabios refranes venezolanos (Número 62)

Saludos en esta noche de domingo 7 de mayo 2023. Estos días han sido de mucho calor, y según los pronósticos metereológicos el calor se extenderá aproximadamente 8 días más, para luego dar paso a las lluvias; y hoy regreso para ofrecerles otro número de mi seriado Cinco Sabios Refranes Venezolanos, un compilatorio de esta expresión de la tradición oral venezolana: Los refranes.

Recientemente estaba viendo unas telenovelas venezolanas antiguas. No soy de ver muchas telenovelas, porque realmente no me gustan, pero hice una excepción, y confirmé que sí, que los venezolanos desde siempre hemos sido muy refraneros. También recordé a mi abuela paterna y a mi tía, (quienes ya no están entre nosotros), y me causó gracia el recordar cómo hablaban, las ocurrencias que tenían ellas dos, siempre con refranes para decir muchas cosas.

Como lo relativo al derecho de autor es MUY IMPORTANTE en todas partes, y también en Hive, reitero: Estos refranes no los he creado yo, son por lo general anónimos, y se difunden (cada vez con menos frecuencia), en el hablar y en la cotidianidad de los venezolanos, por eso yo hago este seriado, para resguardarlos, para que queden plasmados en algún lugar. Sin embargo, yo recurro a libros como los indicados al final de este post, en la sección de Bibliografía. 1) “Mucho ayuda el que no estorba.”

Este dicho me lo dijo una gran amiga cuando hablábamos en estos días, y tiene mucha razón: Nada mejor que aquella persona que no busca interferir en nuestros asunto, que no trata de inmiscuirse en nuestras vidas. Hay otro refrán muy parecido que dice: “El mejor vecino, es el que no jode”, con lo cual estoy 100% de acuerdo, pues si bien se puede ser gentil, cortés, amable y solidario, no hace falta estar buscando cercanía innecesaria que luego pueda causar problemas.

2) “Bueno es el cilantro, pero no tanto.”

Un refrán que es muy útil cuando queremos establecer un límite y evitar el abuso de otra persona. Para ello, el refrán hace referencia a un ingrediente de cocina, que es sabroso y agradable en su justa medida, pero que es desagradable cuando se usa en exceso: El cilantro; por ello la comparación.

3) “Barco grande, ande o no ande.”

Es un refrán romántico, jajajaja, con el cual señalamos que nos gustan las personas grandes, porque son más atractivas y confortables, aún cuando no sean individuos bellos, pero son grandes. Yo aplico este refrán, mi esposo es grandote, jajajajaja.

4) “Barco parado, no gana flete.”

Los barcos son unidades de transporte acuáticas, que pueden generar ganancias a sus propietarios siempre y cuando hagan viajes, se muevan trayendo y llevando gente, mercancía, etc. Cuando un barco está parado en un muelle, no genera dividendos. Por eso se usa este refrán para indicar a una persona, que no debe perder el tiempo ni las oportunidades, y debe moverse para obtener ganancias.

5) “Como piojo en cabeza calva.”

Es un refrán triste, porque indica la extrema necesidad que está experimentando o puede experimentar una persona, en un lugar, en un trabajo o en una situación. También se usa para señalar que no se obtendrá el beneficio esperado de algo.

Greetings on this night of Sunday, May 7, 2023. These days have been very hot, and according to the weather forecasts, the heat will last approximately 8 more days, before giving way to the rains; and today I offer you another issue of my series Five Wise Venezuelan Sayings, a compilation of this expression from the Venezuelan oral tradition: The Sayings.

I was recently watching some old Venezuelan soap operas. I don't watch many soap operas, because I really don't like them, but I made an exception, and I confirmed that yes, Venezuelans have always been proverbial. I also remembered my paternal grandmother and my aunt, (who are no longer with us), and I was amused to remember how they spoke, the occurrences that the two of them had, always with proverbs to say many things.

And since copyright is VERY IMPORTANT everywhere, and also in Hive, I reiterate: These sayings were not created by me, they are generally anonymous, and are spread (increasingly less frequently), in speech and in the daily life of Venezuelans, that is why I make this series, to protect them, so that they are recorded somewhere. However, I resort to books such as those indicated at the end of this post, in the Bibliography section. 1) “It helps a lot if you don't get in the way."

This saying was told to me by a great friend when we talked these days, and she is quite right: Nothing better than that person who does not seek to interfere in our affairs, who does not try to interfere in our lives. There is another very similar proverb that says: “The best neighbor is the one who doesn't screw around”, with which I agree 100%, because although you can be gentle, courteous, friendly and supportive, there is no need to be looking for unnecessary closeness that can later cause problems.

2) "Coriander is good, but not in large quantities."

This saying is very useful when we want to set a limit and avoid mistreatment of another person. For this, the saying refers to a culinary ingredient, tasty and pleasant in its fair measure, but unpleasant when used in excess: Coriander; hence the comparison.

3) “Big ship, walk or not walk."

It is a romantic saying, hahahaha, with which we point out that we like big people, because they are more attractive and comfortable, even when they are not beautiful individuals, but they are big. I apply this saying, my husband is big, hahahahaha.

4) “Ship stopped, does not earn freight."

Ships are aquatic transport units, which can generate profits for their owners as long as they travel, bring and carry people, merchandise, etc. When a ship is stopped at a dock, it does not generate dividends. That is why this saying is used to indicate a person who should not waste time or opportunities, and should move to obtain profits.

5) “Like louse on a bald head.”

It is a sad saying, because it indicates the extreme need that a person is experiencing or may experience, in a place, in a job or in a situation. It is also used to indicate that the expected benefit of something will not be obtained.
