Hey there this is my entry to this week's prompt, I hope you enjoy it.
I Could feel her hair on my face and the warmth of her skin on mine, I could hear her slow heartbeat as I watched her sleep. She was gentle as a lamb and she was at peace as she slept. Her scent filled my lungs and I held her tighter, she feels me tighten my grip and she smiled and held me tighter. Jacob woke up from his sleep hyperventilating as he rushed to the bathroom to wash his face, he kept on having dreams of her, it was just too painful. He looked at himself in the mirror and screamed at the image staring at him. He started to destroy things around the bathroom, he then fell to the ground and started to cry. He can't stop seeing his wife Bella.
He had an appointment in the nearby restaurant with Bella bestfriend Anna. Jacob life's had not being normal since the disappearance of Bella, his life had turned upside down he was an astrologist and he had a degree in Mathematics so he threw himself into his work to distract himself from the pain. He hadn't been taking care of himself, his room and general surroundings wasn't an inviting one.
Posters were littered on the wall with markings made with a red marker showing mathematical equations. Files were opened on the floor with the drawing of northern lights and the arrangement of stars in our solar system.
Jacob came late for the meeting with Anna, she had waited for a while and she wasn't happy about it, you could see it from the expression on her face. As Jacob sat down, she rolled her eyes and said, "Your late!!". Jacob made mimicking sounds and drew a chair in front of her. Jacob said, "Anna I have found something very unique, it is in fact life changing".
As he talked he lowered his voice and moved forward from his chair. She followed suite to her what he had to say, Jacob looked her straight the eye and said,"there's a city in the sky". Anna waited for a moment to be sure whether he was serious. She then a face and said,"Seriously, you brought me all the way out here just to tell me this, you have got to be kidding". Jacob said," I know you would think I'm crazy but I'm not ".
Anna said with a sorry look on her face, "you need to change your life Jacob, cause the way your going there is no going back from there". "I know you're still hurting but you need to…", Jacob raised his hand and as he didnt let her complete the sentence. "I can't move on, Anna, my wife is still out there", Jacob said with a raised voice. Anna said,"Jacob we had a funeral". He stood now about to leave ,"We buried an empty coffin, she's not dead". "If you don't believe me, I will find someone who will", Jacob
stormed out of the restaurant.
Jacob went to the university he ran his degree at, to be able to get funding for a project to the city in the sky. But, they thought him mad and sent him away. He was heart broken and felt betrayed, Jacob was at the point of giving up.
A Few Days Later
Jacob had a knock on his door, he opened the door to find an unusual visitor, It was Anna. "She was my best friend too Jacob, don't forget that", she said. "I found a foundation that is stupid to fund your research are you ready to find your city". He had a broad smile on his face and gave Anna a tight hug as he then entered his room and started to pack a go bag.
Jacob sat near his ice structure as he stared at the northern lights with hot coffee in his hands as he sipped it. A hot air balloon sat near him, he calculated the wind speed it was now or never, he had been in the north for a couple of weeks just to see the northern lights despite the cold he stayed focused on his work. Early that week he had been using his telescope to seek out, the beginning and ending of the lights in the sky. He knew the risk he was taking but for man that had nothing else to lose nobody was stopping him now.
Jacob got into the hot air baĺlon and started to remove the sand bags that held it down, the aim was to be as light as a feather so that he would be able to follow the directions of the wind. He kept of rising and rising as he let go off more sand bags, he sat at the end of the ballon trying to conserve his body heat.
Hour passed as he shivered checking his compass, he had started to development frostbite from his toes. At different points in time he would look up from the corner and see a raven staring at him. The ravens would land on the ballon to rest their feathers. Jacob thought it was weird to see birds at this distance he was very high up, the cold had made him very weak and he passed out.
The drifting by the wind stopped and he started to hear screms and shouts of people, Jacob felt he had been hallucinating. Somebody shouted over there voice and helped him out of the ballon, Jacob woke up in what seemed to look like an infirmary/hospital. He had a drip of normal saline attached to his hand, he removed and went outside to see his surroundings.
Outside,
Jacob saw little children playing and running around a small town, the town was on some kind of craft that seem to be floating. The children ran around laughing and making merry, the town was decorated with bright lights in celebrating of the festive season. Jacob heard a voice behind that sounded familiar it said, "You should not be moving around you need rest".
He felt his heart sink in his chest because he knew that voice, he wondered wherther this place was heaven. He turned his back to see Bella (his long lost wife) staring at him, he gave her a big hug and began to weep tears.
