Mary was devastated and nothing could save her from what was to befall her. She had used every lawyer she knew but none could defend her case. If something isn't done fast, she could be sentenced to life imprisonment.

It all started six months back. Mary was a very rich lady who was married to the owner of an oil company and both of them had three children all together. They were a very happy family and Mary had all the wealth she ever wanted, properties in different states and everything she required was at her beck and call.

But despite all that, she wasn't satisfied with what she had. She always had this urge, which she couldn't explain, tempting her to take what does not belong to her. She tried talking to her husband about it but he was too busy to be concerned.

Mary went to her mother, who was her best friend, to explain things to her. She told her mother the way she was easily attracted to things and she always feels like taking them. Mary's mother told her to be prayerful that God will help her overcome this temptation.

One faithful day, she went to the supermarket with her first child, Uzor. After paying for all she got, she started walking towards her car only for her to be stopped by the security who told her that she stole from an aisle.

madam, could you follow me in to the mall. You seemed to have taken an Item you didn't pay for.

The attendant said.

Uzor was so confused because he knew his mother wasn't a thief . Being a child, he started crying because the security officers started harassing his mother. Mary tried explaining that she did not do it intentionally and that she was ready to pay for the goods she took and for damages also. But no one dared to listen to her.

Uzor quickly rushes to the car to call his aunty, Madam cash, because his father was too busy to come. Madam cash ,who was known in the city of Aba, for trading any clothing material quickly rushed down to the scene to help her sister before she became a victim of jungle justice.

Reluctantly, the security men let Mary go with only a warning because they knew Madam Cash very well and she was a person of integrity.

We would only allow you go because of the relationship we have had with Madam Cash. Thieves like you do not deserve to be pitied.

Madam cash was very shocked at her sister's behaviour and despite different attempts that Mary tried to explain herself, Madam Cash was too angry to listen to her. Saying that Mary was tarnishing the image of their family and that she wouldn't want to have anything to do with her.

Mary wondered why her life has become like this and she thought about who she would have offended to do this to her (The African superstitious belief that someone may be cursed) . She cried herself to sleep on her lonely bed as her husband was too busy to get home on time. Mary wondered why she took items that are not even useful. Sometimes, she does it unintentionally and takes things that she does not even need.

Mary knew this attitude of hers would land her into trouble one day, but she never knew it would be this soon. Arriving at Valeris Collection, a jewellery shop where she was to pick up an emerald bracelet for her friend. Getting what she came for, she attempted going out of the store only for her to be stopped by the sound of the alarm.

And immediately, deja vu ran through her as she remembered the time she was stopped by the security guards at the supermarket. Immediately, a crowd of people surrounded her and found a diamond necklace which she didn't pay for. She was shocked because she didn't even know when she took it.

Wasting no time, the manager called the police and immediately, she was arrested and charged for theft. Mary phoned her husband and told him all that occurred and he was so disappointed because she was damaging the image of the family.

Mary was so angry because no one cared to listen to her own side of the story but were more concerned with her tarnishing the image of the family. She immediately called the family lawyer to take her out of this mess.

And now, she is in the law court praying in her mind that her defence lawyer could get her out of this mess. Her only crime to put her in this condition was to take a diamond necklace from Valeris Collection, a store known for very expensive jewellery.

Jewelries she realised she never even needed. I mean, her husband could afford the entire store if he wanted but people were more concerned with her stealing the rare diamond.

Few minutes before she was to be sentenced, her doctor rushes inside the law court to present a medical report of Mary being a kleptomaniac. And that saved Mary from being sentenced.
