John and his five friends- Janet, Michael, Rose, Brendan and Rita were a notorious group in Palms High school. They were the “IT- group”. The guys were all Jocks and the girls were cheerleaders. John was the captain of the football team and Rose was the head of the cheerleaders team.
Mr Williams their algebra teacher had fixed a test the following week and the group wasn’t prepared for it in any way. They were all so busy with practice and didn’t have time to read for the test which was on a Thursday. They had thought of asking one of the nerds for help in exchange for payment but most of them turned down their proposal. What were they going to do now?
Lunch break on Tuesday
The group was sitted at their usual spot in the cafeteria eating lunch looking rather gloomy while Rose approached them.
“Hey guys”. Rose said in a not so chirpy tone.
“Hey Rose”. Everyone else replied.
“So what’s the plan for Mr Williams test?”. Michael asked
“I honestly don’t know”. Janet replied.
“Well I do know that we’re screwed”. Brendan said while biting off his apple.
“How come no one here is a maths genius or something?”. Rita asked.
“This shouldn’t even be our main concern right now. The test is next tomorrow and I don’t know if you guys forgot but anyone that gets less than a C is on the way to getting kicked out of the cheerleader and football team”. John said.
“I just wish we knew what the test questions are”. Janet said sadly.
“I heard Mr Williams sets his tests the weekend before the test day”. Michael added.
“What if we had access to them?”. Rose said in a low tone.
“It’s always locked up in the table in his office. So we actually need the key to his office and the cupboard in the table as well”. Brendan said
“This might actually work! We’ll get the key by bumping into him and then create a distraction to get him out of the office. Then we break in and get the test questions but we won’t steal them we’d just snap them so he won’t notice they’re missing. Then one of us takes the keys to the lost and found saying we saw it lying around!”. Rita said as she came up with a plan on the spot.
“What distraction could we come up with that would take up to twenty minutes and drive most of the people in school out of our way to avoid being seen by others?”. John asked.
“We could set off the fire alarm. It would be a fake alarm”. Rose suggested.
“Great idea. The perfect time would be tomorrow, a few minutes to lunch break”. Janet added.
The plan was set now and the group was thrilled at the idea of it. They just had to wait till tomorrow.
Wednesday morning
The group reconvened at John’s locker to go over the plan again. Rose would be the one to get the keys off Mr Williams, John would pull the fire alarm, Rita and Brendan would stir up the crowd and make people panic. Michael would be the one to break in and snap the test questions while Janet would keep an eye out for him. When they’re done, Janet would return the key to the lost and found so by then everyone would realize it was a fake alarm.
The plan was a good one.
11:00 am
Rose heads towards Mr Williams while pressing her phone and bumps into Mr Williams and he drops his books and keys.
“Oh I’m so sorry sir”. Rose said while age bent down to pick up his belongings but make sure to exchange his keys with another one.
“Thank you dear”. Mr Williams said oblivious to the exchange that just happened.
Rose heads towards Micheals location to give him the key while she sends a go ahead text to Rita and Brendan.
Immediately a fire alarm is heard and everyone starts to panic and vacate the school building.
Micheal gets the key and starts heading to the office alongside Janet. Janet stands at the entrance keeping an eye out while Micheal successfully breaks in and snaps the required paper.
“Michael!” . Janet whispered.
“I hear footsteps. We have to hurry”. She said
“Okay okay I’m almost done”. He replied while the footsteps got louder.
Immediately he locks up and hides at the back of the door with Janet just at the nick of time while one of the teachers pass by. It was Mr Collins the literature teacher.
They needed a distraction to get away from the crime scene. Immediately they text Rita and Brendan.
A loud bang is heard down the hall which attracts Mr Collins attention and he heads towards that direction. That should’ve been Rita and Brendan thank goodness.
They immediately make their escape and go to meet Janet who takes the key. They all use the back door to leave the school premises to make it seem like they were still panicking about the fire alarm and join the rest of the students.
Few minutes later, the school authorities realize it was a fake alarm and asks the students to go back inside.
Janet immediately takes the keys to the lost and found stating that the owner must have lost them due to the fire alarm.
Break Period
The group is seated at their usual lunch table. They were so happy to have pulled off the heist. Now this evening they would all meet at Johns house to answer them and learn the answers. This was a heist well pulled off!
Test Day
Mr Williams didn’t notice his office was broken into. He shares the tests amongst the students. John and his friends kept praying he didn’t decide to change the test questions last minute.
“You guys can start now. The test is for one hour”. Mr Williams announced.
They all checked the questions and it was the same as the one they saw yesterday. They all looked at each other with a knowing smile and winked.
