Victoria is a shy and withdrawn child. Her large black eyes contrast with the whiteness of her complexion. Her father, Michael Doyle, a sullen, scowling Irish gentleman, is strict with his firstborn daughter from his marriage to Manuela Diaz, a cheerful and understanding Spaniard of Celtic origin.

At the tender age of 6, Victoria plays with her dolls in her fantasy world. She finds it hard to relate to children her age. Her nanny, Mrs. Pilar Rodriguez, besides showing her the affection that her father does not show her, spoils her as much as she can. She thinks that Michael's loneliness and behavior towards Victoria affects her. That is why she does not believe, when Victoria tells him, that she has a friend that only she sees. She is so jealous of her that she never told her parents. She listens to her with patience and amazement. ....

At that time the couple had to be away from Dublin for a couple of days, so Pilar thought it would be a good idea to take Victoria to be in contact with nature. Knowing the child's sensitivity, perhaps she could detect some anomaly in her behavior and thus be able to discuss it with her parents.

She asked Mr. Michael for permission to ask the child if she wanted to stay with her or go with her parents. Mr. Michael, although apparently rough and rude on the outside, is very sensitive on the inside and knows that Pilar is the right person for the upbringing of his daughter. That is why he immediately agreed to the request.

Pilar, excited, ran out ...... to ask the girl.

-Victoria, your parents have to travel out of town for a couple of days, do you want to stay with me or go with your parents?-

Victoria thinking about her invisible friend, as she calls him, answered with a cheerful smile:

-I'll stay with you nana.-

Everything was ready for departure. The girl said goodbye to her parents. Here the dour father, in a flash of tenderness, embraced his daughter. The little girl became very emotional and, by that simple gesture, spoke more of the account....

-Daddy, when you and my mommy come back, I'm going to tell you my secret,- said Victoria, saying goodbye cheerfully.

Manuela's face radiated happiness, she had never seen that kind of scene between her daughter and her husband before.

Pilar had everything ready to take the girl to a nearby forest. They would spend the day observing everything...So it was, when they arrived the girl spoke more....

-Let's go to the stream, nana. He said that my invisible friend, the good elf, would be there. He wants to meet you.-

As soon as they arrived at the river, a pleasant and intense aroma of wild flowers permeated the place. The girl was even more excited...and Pilar couldn't articulate a word..... she couldn't get over her astonishment. She had never heard Victoria speak like that before. She even conveyed a sense of security, of being able to relate to this environment, as if she had known it all her life.

-That's the signal. He is already here. But you have to believe, he exists, if you don't believe you won't be able to see him.... says Victoria all excited.-

Pilar doesn't see or believe anything but, in order not to discourage the girl, she tells her:

-Yes, I'll try.-

-Oh nana, your face is scared! But the elf will show you that he is among us,- says Victoria, laughing, with a certainty that left Pilar perplexed.
Suddenly the handkerchief that Pilar had in her pocket appears flying softly near Victoria.

The girl did not stop laughing. Between laughter and laughter she said to her:

-Nana leave the fear, he is just playing. He is like that. He told me he is going to give me a gold coin.-

Here Pilar thought the girl had lost her mind until...... a gold coin appeared before her eyes. Here Pilar could stand it no longer:

-Let's go home immediately. It's good for today.-

Victoria happily agreed saying, with firmness and a maturity never seen before,

-Just a minute, wait just a minute, the good elf has to give me a message before he disappears.-

-All right,- said the spoiled nanny.

The girl saw something that she did not want to comment at that moment, she picked up the coin from the floor and said:

-Ready. She said goodbye. Now we can leave.-

Pilar took her by the hand and at full speed took the girl away. They did not stop until they reached the house. There Pilar prepared herself a soothing infusion while Victoria went to her room. There she would happily contemplate her coin.....

Nothing more was said. Manuela and Michael arrived. The girl embraces them effusively and tells them that they can now know her secret. The intrigued parents asked her and Victoria answered:

-Wait, I have something to show you.-

She goes to the room and brings her gold coin.

Where did you get that,- asks Manuela.

The good elf gave it to me and told me to keep it. I have to go back to the forest with the coin. He is going to give me a much bigger present and then it will disappear forever.

When his mother realized that the coin was gold, she said to her,

-You have to return that coin to its owner-

Here her husband intervenes saying:

-Take it easy. The elves exist. When I was a child I had a friend, he always communicated with me. He was naughty. But he was right about one thing. He told me that I would meet a foreign woman of Celtic origin and that I would marry her.-

And he winks at his dear Victoria as a sign of complicity. Manuela remains calm and goes to prepare dinner.

When they are alone, father and daughter laugh in silence. Then she confesses to him that they have to return to the forest to remove the pot of gold. The father agrees with a smile ....

The mischievous elf achieved his goal by tenderly bringing Victoria and her father together.
