Think not dear children, that all my assets will be for you. My assets are here to add more value to your life. Only when you might have made some achievements independently, will you be eligible to inherit my properties and money, less everything goes to the less privileged.
Having observed how his twin brother Mr. Paul squandered his share of their father's assets, Mr. Peter, together with his wife, Agnes decided that their children will not inherit any of their assets if they have not attained some heights in life. It was not an easy decision for them but the circumstances they found themselves in, prompted them to make such a decision. Mr. Peter is a business tycoon with several properties spread across the country, his wife has three bouquets and a hairdressing salon.
Because of their parent's financial ground, the children have not been serious with their lives, Jenifer, the first child has been expelled from three different schools because of her poor performance. Had it been she has been making efforts to pass, the case would have been a different thing. She believes that she has everything in life. She is beautiful and has a rich parent, thus she doesn't need to study hard to succeed in life. The second child, Joan refused to go to school. He prefers staying at home, clubbing, and roaming the streets. All he wants is to enjoy life to its fullest without working for it.
On a particular Sunday, around 8 pm, Mr. Peter calls his two children. He asked them this question, * "what would you think of a man, who before his death has passed all his properties and money to the less privileged when he has two children?*.
At, first the children went silent for some minutes but Joan broke the silence.
Father, such a man is wicked and heartless. If he is the biological father of the children, then his sanity needs to be questioned.
Jenifer added, " if he happens to be my father, then I will make sure he is not given a befitting burial. He is a monster.
The father was not surprised by his children's responses. He asked them another question, let's say we can see what is happening in the world from our grave, how will you feel if everything you have worked hard for crumbled just a few months after your death, and those whom you entrusted all those things are afterward subjected to hardship?
It was at this point that the children understood that he had long been talking about them. They both went silent. The father continues, My twin brother Paul suffers today because he lived a rough life before and after the death of our parents. He squandered his share of our father's properties just one year after our father's death. I feel sorry not for him, but for my dad who will be sad with him wherever he is.
I called you here today, to let you know that we have decided to will all our properties to the less privileged. None of you will inherit anything from us except if while we are still alive, we noticed a positive change in attitude from you guys.
Joan couldn't believe his ears, he told his father that he can't do that to his only son. He left angrily. Jennifer told his father that such action is not fair that they should reconsider their decision. It was at this point that the mother stepped in.
" My dear daughter, what we are doing now is for the benefit of you and your brother. You may not understand it now but soon you will come to appreciate what we did today. We will give you guys all the financial support you may need in anything you want to do henceforth."
Jennifer and Joan couldn't sleep that night. They knew very well that the world will laugh at them if their parents should accomplish their threat. They also know how rich their parents are and they wouldn't want to lose out on it. There was a total change of behavior afterward. Jennifer became serious with her studies and was able to bring to light, her hidden potentials. Joan decided to learn fashion designing and was able to establish his brand and Jenifer graduated as a nurse four years after.

Their parents were filled with joy seeing how their children have changed and what they have accomplished. On the convocation day, Jenifer as the best graduating student made this valedictory speech, " A warm welcome to everyone here, today I stand as the best graduating student of Queensland varsity, something I never dreamt of. Born in a rich family, I believe the stage has already been set for me, that all I need is to have fun and enjoy life. Everything changed in a single night. My parent's words changed this wrong mindset, and that's what made me what I am today. I want to challenge those people out there who are from rich families to look away from their parent's assets and work towards developing themselves. Thank you, my lecturers, for impacting us. Thank you, my classmates. I cherish every moment we had. To my parents, May God bless you. Amen.
