Theinkwell prompt #47/ The saving grace.

We will be using the night bus when going back. Dad echoed to the hearing of everyone.

John never liked it because he is afraid of the dark. But James on the other hand was very much excited. The night trip was the best.

There is no traffic congestion, no harsh weather and the road will be free, James stated as he walked from the kitchen to the dining room where he kept a glass of cold water.

But have you thought of armed robbery, kidnapping and unknown gunmen who have practically ravaged the country, my life is more crucial to me oooh John murmured from the sitting room where he sat playing his PS2.

That's true the problem of insecurity in this country is alarming and needs to be tackled. Dad responded from the passage.

So are we cancelling the night trip? John asked.

Well, I would have said yes but!! Oh no Dad you have to consider our lives here please John tried as much as possible to convince their father.

God will always protect his children. Their father replied.

James jumped in excitement. It will be a great trip. He added.

After much preparation, the holiday came to an end as they all waved goodbye to family and friends in the village. Just as stated it was going to be a night trip. John was not comfortable doing that trip but he had no option.

It was a long bus that took up to 50 passengers.

The trip was cool and steady. The cool breeze of nature, the traffic congestion-free, the calmness and the noise-free on the road made the journey even more interesting; they travelled about 150km from their village before something happened.

There was a roadblock, heavy tires were placed on the road to obstruct cars coming.

It's a robbery and someone in the car screamed.

Immediately that voice came they heard a gunshot from a distance which affected the tyre of the bus.

The front right tire burst.

That made the driver lose control for a while, the shout in the bus brought the attention of the driver back to life as he regained consciousness, he held the stirring with full focus and drove towards them without any fear. But then the passengers were screaming at the top of their voices " please stop, please stop"

But the driver acted as if he was deaf at that point. John, James and their Dad were so terrified that they held their hands together hoping they would scale through this in good health.

The sound of the gun and the penetration of bullets broke. Made some people even pass out. John was one of them who never liked night trips.

The driver managed to escape the attack with a little rough but. saving grace driving.

By the time John opened his eyes he w, as laying on his father's legs. Where are we and how did we manage to escape that?

The unlikely hero was the driver. James replied.

I promise we won't embark on any night grip again, the father responded.

But it was fun Dad. James said jokingly. I won't go on any night trip again even if I am paid, not after this ugly experience.

Thank God we made it, their mum responded as she walked in. What would I have done without the three of you?
