Now, I welcome you to day 1 of the "Inkwell Fast And Furious Festival".

My assignments:

Task One
In your post, take what you learn about each of the three characters from the dialogue in the extract below and then develop them until you have a paragraph describing the character more fully.

A woman in a restaurant whispers to her friend:
"You know who that is over there, don't you?"
The other woman surreptiously glances at the other table:
"No, who?"
"That's just it, she's had so much work done you don't recognise her. That's Betty Grainger."
"No!"
"Yes, she's had her nose done, cheeks lifted, even a hair transplant."
"Whatever for?"
"She's going into politics."
"Seriously, that's really her?" * (69 words).

My response:

According to one of the two gossips, Betty Grainger is considering going into politics and she seems like a prospective candidate for the upcoming elections. She seemed to have transformed from the ugly nerd back in high school, to an absolute gorgeous Lady. With her pointed nose, chubby cheeks and blonde hair, It was obvious that Betty had undergone a lot of retouching. After so many years of being called an ugly nerd, she must have decided on this transformation regardless of what people had to say. And of course, she did this with a major reason to run her political ambition without any error. It only seemed unusual that Betty looked better in her late 40's than in her early teenage years. The confidence in her dress and looks tells that she was ready to play the game.

Laura Jack, the gossip who started the conversation in the restaurant had always been a nosy poker right from high school. She had known Betty Grainger for a long period of time, since they were kids. Although they both grew in the same neighbourhood, she never came to close terms with Betty "the ugly nerd". But she got to know a lot about Betty and her wealthy family since her brother was their favorite neighbour. Laura seemed to have quite a retentive memory for old gossip as well and she never fails to indulge her friends in them. As usual, she wasn't going to ask Betty what's up since they were never close but she sure would find her way around it. She would come back with more gossip for her friend. But at the moment, she could help Betty for whatever she sought in the restaurant and maybe, this time, they could become good friends.

Carolina Adams had always been a best friend to Laura Jack. Their parents were best of friends and it passed onto them. Carolina works in a fancy restaurant where she was having this conversation with Laura. She seems to be less observant about the little things happening around her except it's related to her job. However, she cherished the company of her best friend and when her attention was called, she couldn't believe her eyes. For once, she thought she was being deceived. She was staring at a drop dead gorgeous woman who she claimed to have stolen her hearthrob back in high school. After so many years, she was suprised at how Betty had changed so much. "Was she really married to Sam?", "Or was she going into politics with all that beauty in a bid to steal more men?" Caro was eager to find out.

Task Two:
Write a short dialogue, like the one above, no more than 70-100 words, where two characters are talking about a third one. What can you reveal about your characters in your dialogue?

My response:

"Dad used to be my bestfriend when we lost mom", Jane said softly.

"Want to talk about it?" Chris asked.

Jane looked away as her face grew red at the though of it.

"He was all we had", Jane said, "well not until his job became more demanding"

"Uhmm, Not sure I know how that feels"

"It's fine Chris. I also did not know how all of it felt until this point. I'm just bothered that he feels comfortable devoting all of his time to his job rather than his kids".

Thank you for reading my post. Please do well to comment what you think about my first assignment. Constructive criticisms are allowed. Thank you.
