Grandma's treat//The inkwell writing prompt

Bisi wasn't happy with the idea of traveling to the village for Christmas, staying with grandma didn't sound fun to her especially when she was to meet her for the first time. Bisi was 14; tall, and beautiful, her parents had decided to come introduce her to grandma and would stay throughout the season of celebration. Ada, Bisi's grandma sat on a woody chair in the corridor watching the children play with tyres, the young women winnowing on a mountain, farmers with hoes hanging on their shoulders as they walked down to their farms. The villagers lived in thatch houses that was sparsely populated. Unlike other remote villages, the village of Lahunta was just some kilometers from the cities.

"You'll enjoy your stay with grandma" Bisi's mum assured her, " grandma is lively and full of life even though she's in her late 80s". Bisi nodded to signify her agreement with what her mum said. As long as it was going to be a full house with her parents around, she was fine with it. Bisi and her family drove to the village three days before Christmas, they needed to arrive early and make preparations toward the forthcoming events. Grandma was happy to receive them, she had persuaded her daughter to come to the village with Bisi whom she hadn't seen for a longtime.

"You're welcome, Nne, how was the journey?" Grandma asked, as she embraced Bisi "You've grown up to be beautiful, just like me in my youth". She said, Bisi smiled, she really wasn't sure how grandma looked in her teens but could predict her words to be true looking at her wrinkled face that still held some beauty.

"The journey was fine" Bisi's mum replied as she dragged her luggage to the room.

Grandma wanted to make the season memorable for Bisi. Though the village doesn't have fancy decorations, buildings and malls like that of the cities, she believed there was still something she could do to make Bisi happy. A day before Christmas, grandma had ordered for a Christmas tree, and some disco lights to make decorations in the small thatch house where she lived. It was a surprise to light Bisi's mood who had seemed reserved coming to the village for the first time.

Bisi woke up to the sound of a Christmas song on the 25th of December. She smiled, she had not expected the day would start with such a treat, she followed the sound of the music to the parlor where she saw a decorated Christmas tree with different disco lights emitting brilliant colors. Her mood lightened. Around the house were different decorations.

"Grandma, you made this?" Bisi asked.

"There's more surprises," grandma said.

Bisi's mood lightened, she knew Christmas will indeed be fun with grandma.

"There's going to be a Christmas party this evening and children of your age will join you".
