The Forbidden Love

It had come too soon, the day they'd all anticipated. The moon had come out in it's full glory and the stars payed homage to it. The wind was hard and coarse and it fed all it's anger on the big coconut tree whose leaves run helter skelter for safety.

It was a cold night, silent if not for the continuous mocking sound of the owl. Summer stared through the tiny window holding the necklace her mother gave her, it never left her neck. It was the only thing left of her mother's and it always comes to life in the darkness of the night. Jake slept peacefully on the small bed that layed on the tattered concrete floor.

They have been locked up in this room for twenty days now, she had counted, the sun and moon being her guide. It was the custom of the sun people to grant justice on the twentieth day after capture and it was past midnight signifying the last day.

She had wondered why they both had to pay for a love so great, it had never been their doing , no not at all. Love wasn't supposed to end in pain, anger or death. It was supposed to be beautiful, gentle and overwhelmingly kind. It was something she never regretted feeling and if she had a chance to live again she would always choose to love.

A sudden scurrying sound woke them up, the the wooden door flew open. Two hefty looking men, the ones that had always kept guard entered carrying ropes. They wore no expression on their faces as they tied both of them up.

She looked at Jake and saw the sadness in his eyes, He knew what was going to happen to them. It felt like a dream, they had never for once thought that their love would lead them to this point.

She'd been tempted to lie to her father the king and denounce the love she had for Jake, maybe only then would he let him live. But she just couldn't, there was no way she would live without him. She was ready to face it all, even if they had to be the Romeo and Juliet of the present generation.

They reached the town's square and she saw a big smile draw across Jake's face, it followed with the quiet whisper I love youand her heart almost melted.

The square was filled with a lot of people who screamed in disgust. Was this how the world felt about a princess and a poor fisherman falling in love?

The Uhuzu known as the mouthpiece of the gods raised his hands and the whole place went quiet. He did some incantations and some dancing then let out a sigh. He looked at both of them, "It is a taboo for a mere fisherman to lay his hands on royalty, this is a slap on the face of the Sun god...

He kept rambling on and on as Summer caught sight of her father, he shook his head in disappointment. He looked pale, well who wouldn't with everything that was going on. If only he had let her love whomever she wanted.

Finally, they were both found guilty and would be served the justice of the Sun god. Summer looked again at Jake and noticed that he looked more handsome. She was drawn to him in every way and couldn't help it for one second. She held his hand and closed her eyes ready to love over and over again.
