Epic Sushi Battle Time! - Chris vs Zak Round 1

Welcome, welcome to the first ever Sushi battle between myself and my nephew Christopher Dodd!

Well, you see, maybe it was more relaxed than that. Christopher is my nephew and thus he, @aimeludick, and @merenludick are cousins. In fact, there are 9 cousins from 3 sisters.

Besides my own children, my relationship with my nephews (and nieces) is without question the best thing that came out of my marriage with my ex-wife. I have always been the "cool uncle", the uncle the kids can come to and relate the most with in regards to games, anime, and whatnot.

We do not socialize that often, not often enough! I really do enjoy spending time with Chris as well as nephew Danial who came over with Chris for a braai some months ago. Danial and his family live in Germany. There is also a nephew and a niece in Australia so they are all over the place really!

Now that you have to run down on that, let's look at sushi battles!

Right, I love sushi. I have another friend who was supposed to "battle" me at an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet, but she moved to Canada before we could square off.

I figured Chris would be up for a friendly challenge. Chris' friend Ben joined us as well and we spent the evening chatting about a variety of topics.

The Competitor

Christopher is number 3 of 9, by that I mean he is the 3rd eldest of their generation. He is by far the tallest of them all! I've known Chris since he was about 8 years old and we noticed around about the time he turned 13 years old that he was already taller than me.

He kept going...

Next time we will take a picture of us standing together so you can see the difference.

Christopher spent some time at Stellenbosch University and was part of their rugby team, he was also enrolled to the Western Province Rugby Academy, which you can read about here: https://wprugbyacademy.co.za/about/

I watched him(online) play a game against the Cheetahs Institute of Excellence team, which was damn exciting! Especially when I saw Chris score the first try of the game!

There is a lot a person can say about rugby in South Africa. I am not even a big rugby fan(I say while typing this wearing a Springbok jacket) except of course when we play for the World Cup(and we are in the semi-finals to finals). I guess I am just not there for every single game, but my support is there when it is needed.

Enough about rugby. The point was that I needed to take on a fit young man who would have a decent appetite.

Best of Asia is a popular sushi and Asian foods restaurant chain store in South Africa. I do not know if they are anywhere else in the world. One thing is certain is that each one is a bit different. Same model, but the manager and the chef of each determines the quality and satisfaction levels in the sushi.

This is the Table Bay Mall restaurant and I have to say, the decor is amazing, the service was excellent and friendly and the sushi was top notch!

The Delicious Battleground

Two identical servings of sushi. Christopher got to pick to forgive me if I get it wrong.

King Rolls, King Nigiri, Salmon Roses, Butterflies, King Maki with a side order of Calamari Tempura. We also had some other portions off the belt as we went along, waiting for these massive orders to arrive.

The idea in the buffet battle is to eat all of the same stuff because two pieces of sushi may not be equal.

It was well worth the wait!

The Results:

Zak - 47 / Chris - 45

Uncle Zak takes the win!

Not the most sushi I have ever eaten in one sitting but the restaurant was closing and we were rushed at the end. They also closed an hour earlier than anticipated.

I finished off the battle with a "with this piece I win" moment and then took another just to put the nail in the coffin in case Chris tried to snap one more piece up to get a draw!

Till next time Chris!
