Mountains are a center of energy and when we walk among trails, forests and trees we feel closer than ever to the pure essence of the planet.
With a hike in the mountains we are energized and repowered. When we return home, although tired, we are more active, happy and ready for activities.
Doing physical exercise in contact with nature gives us a series of benefits:
- It is an excellent aerobic exercise.
- It helps us to control our weight.
- It tones our muscles.
- It increases the elasticity of our joints, but be careful.
- It helps to strengthen our bones.
- It helps lower stress levels.
Dear readers, every weekend I climb the Avila, a magical mountain in the foothills of Caracas, Venezuela. It is comforting, it calms my soul and mind. So today I am going to tell you about my weekend adventure on Avila.
It all starts on a Sunday at 06:30 a.m., after having breakfast, putting on my clothes and sports shoes, I put together my backpack with:
- Water, at least a liter.
- Fruits, they are necessary to fill us up with energy, especially bananas and mango.
- Snacks. I usually last about 6 hours from the time I leave until I return home.
- My yoga mat.
- And my desire to climb.
At 07:30 a.m., I am already at the entrance of Avila by San Bernardino, together with my friends, all active and excited. We begin the slow ascent, because during the first 2,000 meters we walk along a somewhat steep cement path.
When we reach 1,900 meters we stop. There is a very special space there, the breeze runs cool among some pine trees, and the area is quite flat, soft and humid. There we do yoga for an hour. It's funny because the people who pass by stop to watch us exercise.
From this place we can see the city of Caracas to the south and to the north the path that will take us to the cross.
We continue our adventure, we continue to climb, only 1,400 meters to reach the cross. But I tell you a secret, after passing the 2,500 meters and one has no energy and the body begins to say let's go back, but the will is stronger, we keep walking.
When we reach the 3,000 meters it is all happiness, only 300 meters to go and we arrived! ... but these 300 meters are far away.
Finally we arrive at the cross, it is wonderful to be there. We sit under the shade of the trees and enjoy our snack. We share a while, while we rest and then the return home is much easier, but being very careful not to hurt our knees and ankles.
