It's Squirrel Sunday Again

Looks like it's #squirrelsunday again, prepare for cuteness

Here is the first squirrel chilling on a branch in the sun. This is their warmup method in the morning.

This one looks like its going back inside it's tree hollow home to keep warm.

Here is one on the ground searching for some buried treasure of walnuts or acorns. Now if only it could remember where it buried them...

Some of them can pose nicely for photos and will let you really close before jumping away.

This one was posing nicely then when I clicked the shot it decided to turn away quickly. Some are just shy I guess.

Here is a shy one that doesn't want to get caught raiding the neighbor's yard. If I sit really still on this fence the humans will think I am a branch.

Black walnuts are their main source of food. They have to chew through quite a bit of green material and the thick shell to get to the walnuts. Fortunately this helps keep their teeth trimmed down and the green husk has good anti-parasitic properties in it so they end up deworming themselves while eating their normal food.

Now for something completely different. This poor rabbit doesn't know whether is should freeze or bolt off somewhere. This gave me a good opportunity to focus in on its face. I went out looking for squirrels and found a bonus rabbit.

Now for a sad little critter. This is a vole and I always see them darting around the prairie lands just out of the corner of my eye. I suspect this one might have darted into a bike path right as a biker was riding by and got run over. Poor thing, at least now I can see more clearly what these little guys look like. They run so fast and the camera can only catch them as a blur at best. I'm sure some crow or hawk will be by to pickup a free vole lunch later on.

That's all for this #squirrelsunday
