Weekend-engagement #187 : At home

What weekend activities are you getting involved with this weekend and why? Remember to use your own photos.

Warm greetings to all Hiveans in this New Year of 2024. Choosing among the questions in weekend-engagement by @galenkp has become challenging. I had too many incidents related to the first question. The sad part is I don't have any memories at present as years rolled by.

So, shifting to the question about getting involved with weekend activities. we had a guest, though we expected them any day of the week, their sudden arrival was a surprise. They got married last week, and today the bride, groom and their parents visited us.
But as their visit was to all relatives house they did not spent more than 5 minutes.

The weather is not favorable at present. Too hot or humid in the morning and raining at night. This kind of weather makes one sick very soon particularly leading one cough, cold and severe throat infection. So just held up at home having homely foods and herbal coffee. As it is a global problem, I just thought to share the recipe of Herbal spicy coffee, may be it might help someone in need.

Ingredients for Spicy Herbal coffee

  • Water - 2 medium size cups
  • Black jaggery - 100 gm
  • Black pepper - 1 tsp (grounded)
  • Cloves - 2 Nos.
  • Cinnamon stick - 1 inch
  • Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
  • Dried Ginger - powdered 1 tsp
  • Tulsi (Basil leaves).- 5 to 6 leaves

Method of preparation :

  • Crush Black pepper, cloves, cinnamon stick, cumin seeds, dried ginger and boil in two cups of water along with Basil leaves at a less medium flame for atleast 5 minutes.
  • Now add the Black Jaggery and boil for few more minutes and now switch off the flame and leave it for 5 minutes: so that all the ingredients settle down.
  • Finally, take a cup and pour the coffee to just 1/2 cup. As its spicy, its enough to have just half a cup.

You can have this in the morning and evening, if you have severe cough.

There is another liquid soup which we quite often have at night, when throat infection is severe. Made of broken rice (white or brown)

Ingredients required :

  • Broken rice - 1/2 a normal cup
  • Fresh Coconut - 4 to 5 table spoon
  • Dry ginger - powdered 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic - just 2 small flakes
  • Cumin - 1/2 tsp
  • Shallots - 4 Nos.
  • Pepper - 1/2 tsp powdered
  • Salt as per taste
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp

Method of preparation:

  • Pressure cook rice along with dry ginger powder and salt.
  • In the meantime, grind fresh coconut with cumin, garlic, turmeric and shallots.
  • Once the rice is cooked, open the lid and mix the grinded coconut paste along with pepper powder and bring to boil.
  • Now you switch off the gas and have it hot. It gives a soothing effect.

So this was my weekend acrivity friends. Photos are my own, prepared in these two days.

Hope you had a joyous weekend and Wishing a healthy week ahead Hiveans.
