Hello everyone! My friends know that weekends are sacred to me, they are two days of the whole week where I try to de-stress and clear my mind. So hiking is what I love doing the most. This is why I want to share with you a new route that I did last Sunday.
¡Hola a todos! Mis amigos saben que los fines de semana para mí son sagrados, son dos días de toda la semana donde busco desestresarme y despejar mi mente. Por lo tanto, hacer senderismo es lo que más amo hacer. Es por esto que quiero compartir con ustedes una ruta nueva que hice el domingo pasado.
First at all, It's very important for me to tell you that before visiting any route I previously investigate it. Always. In this way I have a prior knowledge of what I am about to find on the site and that in turn, allows me to appreciate much more what I am traveling. I also believe that it is essential for people who hike not only to stay with the experience of touring but to impart their stories. And this is what it is about. Or not?
Primero que nada es muy importante para mí decirles que antes de visitar alguna ruta investigo previamente de la misma. Siempre. De esta manera tengo un previo conocimiento de lo que estoy a punto de encontrar en el sitio y que a su vez, me permite apreciar muchísimo más lo que estoy recorriendo. También considero que es fundamental para las personas que hacemos excursionismo no solo quedarnos con la experiencia de recorrer sino de impartir sus historias. Y es que, de esto se trata. ¿O no?
This is how I introduce another route, this time I had to visit what is known as The old Hydroelectric "El Encanto" or as they usually call it Guaire River Canyon.
Es así como doy introducción a otra ruta más, está vez me tocó visitar lo que se conoce como La antigua Hidroeléctrica "El encantado" o como normalmente le dicen Cañón del río Guaire.
Yes, canyon of the guaire. The United States has its great canyon and we have our cannon, hehe. Located in a river well known by the inhabitants of Venezuela, especially by the people of Caracas Because it is the place where the most waste passes (that is, you cannot bathe in that river) its smell is sometimes very penetrating Thanks to the stench and the rocky areas, it is very dangerous for someone to fall.
Sí, cañón del guaire. Estados unidos tiene su gran cañón y nosotros tenemos nuestro cañón, jeje. Situado en un río muy conocido por los habitantes de Venezuela, más que todo por los caraqueños por ser el sitio que más desperdicios pasan (Es decir, no se puede bañar en ese río) su olor a veces es muy penetrante gracias al hedor y por las zonas rocosas, resulta muy peligroso para alguien que se caiga.

But before reaching the Guaire canyon there is a very long way to go. That was what I experienced thanks to the fact that I lost the transport with the hiking group with whom I was going to go, however, that did not prevent me from going backpacking to find this wonder.
Pero antes de llegar al cañón del Guaire hay un camino muy largo por recorrer. Eso fue lo que viví gracias a qué perdí el transporte con el grupo de excursionista con quiénes iba a ir, no obstante, eso no me impidió en irme de mochilera para encontrar esta maravilla.
First, I had to go through several residential complexes in the hatillo (municipality located in the capital), which every time I took a step I felt that I would never arrive. Thanks to technological advances and the little privacy that they allow us (Just kidding) we were able to get to our route. Thanks GPS!
Primero tuve que pasar por varios conjuntos residenciales del hatillo (municipio ubicado en la capital), que cada vez que daba un paso sentía que nunca iba a llegar. Gracias a los avances tecnológicos y a la poca privacidad que nos permite los mismos (bromeo) pudimos llegar hasta nuestra ruta. ¡Gracias GPS!

It was an unknown area for me and for the girls with whom I went. There were not many people around and there were many climbs to reach our destination. A man accompanied us during those ascents until his destination arrived, we continued going up and down, also asking the security of the residences.
Era una zona desconocida para mí y para las chicas con quiénes iba. No había mucho gente alrededor y eran muchas subidas para llegar a nuestro destino. Un señor nos acompañó durante esas subidas hasta que llegó su destino, nosotras seguimos subiendo y bajando preguntando también a los de seguridad de las residencias.
We come to a crossroads, we turn left to find another crossroads. By inertia we took the right hand that seemed a more mountainous place. Confident we reached the end to find that there was nothing else thanks to a guaya that blocked the way (we almost cried).
Llegamos a un cruce, doblamos a la izquierda para encontrarnos con otro cruce. Por inercia tomamos mano derecha que parecía un sitio más montañoso. Confiadas llegamos hasta el final para encontrarnos que no había más nada gracias a una guaya que trancaba el paso (casi que lloramos).
We went up again and when we reached the center of the crossroads a man appeared who indicated that the correct path was to the left. So we keep going down.
Subimos nuevamente y al llegar al centro del cruce apareció un señor que nos indicó que el camino correcto era a mano izquierda. Así que seguimos bajando.
And we keep going down.
Y seguimos bajando.
We continued the path until we found some houses, in one of them a lady asked us to write down our names and the person responsible (A very large group had gone and because it is a risky place because of the river ravine, it is necessary to take the assistance of those who pass by those sides). So we kept going down, we passed a house (literally, people were sitting in their patios and we had to cross over there, amazing how used they are) until we reach a tank and we continue descending.
Seguimos el camino hasta que conseguimos unas casas, en una de ellas una señora pidió que anotáramos nuestros nombres y la persona responsable (había ido un grupo muy grande y por ser un sitio arriesgado por estar la quebrada del río, es necesario tomar la asistencia de quienes pasan por esos lados). Así que seguimos bajando, pasamos por una casa (literalmente, las personas estaban sentados en sus patios y tuvimos que cruzar por allí, increíble lo acostumbrados que están) hasta llegar a un tanque y seguimos descendiendo.
It's a very steep area, therefore we had to go down carefully so as not to hurt our knees and not to slip. From that journey we spent half an hour going down.
Es una zona muy empinada, por lo tanto había que bajar con cuidado para no lastimarnos las rodillas y de no resbalarnos. A partir de esa travesía duramos media hora bajando.
And so we arrive at our first stop: The old hydroelectric.
Y así llegamos a nuestra primera parada: La antigua hidroeléctrica.
This hydroelectric plant known normally as "El Enchanted" was the first hydroelectric plant in Latin America and the second on the continent. It was in charge of supplying electricity to the city of Caracas, therefore it is considered to be one of the few cities that electricity worked. It was inaugurated under the presidency of Joaquín Crespo and administered by the Anonymous Electricity Company of Caracas founded by the engineer Ricardo Zuloaga. It worked from 1897 to 1911.
Esta hidroeléctrica conocida normalmente como "El encantado" fue la primera Hidroeléctrica en Latinoamérica y la segunda en el continente. Fue la encargada en sumistrarle electricidad a la ciudad de Caracas, por lo tanto se le considera que fue una de las pocas ciudades que funcionó la electricidad. Fue inaugurado bajo la presidencia de Joaquín Crespo y adminitrado por la Compañía Anónima de Electricidad de Caracas fundada por el ingeniero Ricardo Zuloaga. La misma funcionó desde 1897 hasta 1911.
The hydroelectric plant is a source of hydraulic energy, this plant was designed to produce energy thanks to the current of water that was presented in the Guaire River. In this way, it was generating continuous electricity for the city of Caracas at that time.

This stop was very emotional for me, to see what were the rusty turbines, the mill, the roots of the trees that collapsed several walls leaving them deteriorated deteriorated and the mold, It was hard for me to believe that our country was booming thanks to this power plant.

I have to emphasize again that this river is not suitable for bathing. At the end of the 20th century, the river was not polluted, therefore the population could bathe in Rio and they were supplied with the same water, that ended during the term of Antonio Guzmán Blanco, who "ordered that it be used as the main drainage route for Caracas' sewage." Tengo que resaltar nuevamente que este río no está apto para bañarse. A finales del siglo XX el río no estaba contaminado, por lo tanto la población podía bañarse en Río y se surtían de esa misma agua, eso acabó durante el mandato de Antonio Guzmán Blanco que "ordenó que se utilizara como la vía principal de desagüe de las aguas residuales de Caracas".

Continuing on our way, we come across a lot of fauna and small streams. As expected they were not springs, unfortunately.
Siguiendo nuestro camino, nos conseguimos con mucha fauna y pequeñas quebradas. Cómo son de esperar no eran manantiales, lastimosamente.
Twenty minutes later we find what we were waiting for so much.
Veinte minutos después nos encontramos con lo que tanto esperábamos.
Rock of the Guacas /Peñón de las Guacas
What we knew as the Guaire canyon, a place so perfect that people find it hard to believe that this tourist site is next to the Guaire River. Well, imagine crossing a walkway, on one side you have the view of the river, mountainous areas and on the other side you find the rock of the guacas formed by large rocks. Perfect also for those who are lovers of photography.
Lo que conocíamos como el cañón del Guaire, un lugar tan perfecto que a las personas les cuesta creer que este sitio turístico está a un lado del río Guaire. Pues, imagínense cruzar una pasarela, a un lado tienes la vista del río, zonas montañosas y a otro lado te encuentras con el peñón de las guacas formados por grandes rocas. Perfecta también para aquellos que son amantes de la fotografía.
It is a very interesting place to visit. The level of demand is calculated between 6/10 but this does not indicate that it is impossible to do. Ideal for those who are starting hiking and who in turn like history, for those people who despite the monotony of the city, of the abuses that the country has, be willing to know and treasure the history that our country has.
Es un sitio muy interesante para recorrer, El nivel de exigencia está calculada entre 6/10 pero esto no indica que es imposible de realizar. Ideal para quienes están comenzando el excursionismo y que a su vez les guste la historia, para aquellas personas que a pesar de la monotonía de la ciudad, de los atropellos que tiene el país, esté dispuesto en conocer y atesorar la historia que tiene nuestro país.
