Currently there is not much going on, so we started looking through the phones and camera looking for some car related content and we found this clip that Annabelle filmed whilst Ben was driving Dorothy our C124 towards Cardiff.
We had just attended Salon Prive the day before and were heading down to see family, and it is a good job we did knowing what we know now, we had no idea the likelihood this would be our last trip there for at least a year.
This video was filmed crossing the Severn Bridge heading towards Cardiff in September, this was the first time that we took the Mercedes anywhere further than say 30 or 40 miles around the local area. Dorothy ended up doing well over 350 miles on that trip and it wasn't particularly bad economy wise either considering Mr lead foot Ben.
The thing about the W124 Coupe is it is very comfortable you just melt into the heated seats and listen to the purr of the engine and your chosen track, granted this is one of the smaller engines in the range but it still has 138bhp not bad for an 8 valve 2.3 L four-cylinder running K jet injection from Bosch.
It is a pleasure to literally go two minutes down the road or six hours straight, the strange thing is we didn't even realise at the time the OVP was as instrumental as it was, we had an ABS light, we thought It was just a bulb however once changed the difference was night and day.
This is one of those journeys we will never forget - we visited two shows last year, two... mind you we're happy we did, now normally we would be visiting 20-30 events a year, including Goodwood and Concours. This last year we made it to Auto Sport International and Salon Prive and that was quite amazing and the lengths they went to for the social distancing were quite phenomenal.
Anyway back to the Cardiff trip we only stayed there a couple of days and it was a good job because on the Sunday night Wales declared full lockdown which meant we wouldn't have been able to get back.
It's good that you can look back on these little videos and think actually there was some normality last year, it may been few and far between but it was there.
Here's to a more adventurous this year... well maybe from summer onwards.
