Gooding & Company Pebble Beach : Silver Surfers

Last week, I wrote a post about the new Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance sale hosted by Gooding & Company in California in August. And I didn't see the incredible collection of cars that were for sale :

01.jpg

Indeed a part of the car collection of the famous drummer Neil Peart will be offered for sale, nicknamed the Silver Surfers as all these cars are finished in gray except the Shelby Cobra 289 :
• 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window Coupe,
• 1964 Aston Martin DB5,
• 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8-Litre Coupe,
• 1964 Shelby Cobra 289,
• 1965 Maserati Mistral Spider,
• 1970 Lamborghini Miura P400 S,
• 1973 Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS Coupe.

What a collection!

If you want to see some of the cars sold during Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 14 & 15th, here's a follow-up :

Silver Surfers

Since I think I've featured these models in past sales, I'll just give a quick overview. But first, a little presentation of the seller Neil Peart :

02.jpg

Neil Peart with his Aston Martin DB5

Neil Peart is one of the greatest rock drummers of all time (Best Rock Drummer: 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 2006, 2008 for Modern Drummer magazine) and was inducted in 2013 into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He had a passion for classic cars, especially the Aston Martin DB5. Thanks to his success, he was able to satisfy his passion. But he passed away in January 2020 after bravely brain cancer for more than three years 🙏.

"The title Silver Surfers for my collection of cars occurred to me while driving the DB5 up and down the Pacific Ocean. Because it felt right to me, I guess – the idea that I was just one of the wave riders." - Neil Peart (source : Goodingco.com)

1964 Aston Martin DB5

03.jpg

James Bond's car makes many of us dream. The Aston Martin DB5 was released in July 1963 by Aston Martin based on the design of the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera (founded in 1926 in Milan). During its production years between 1963 and 1965, only 1,021 examples were produced. Beautiful example finished in Silver Birch metallic over a blue leather interior.

Estimate price : $US 650,000. More info on Goodingco.com

1970 Lamborghini Miura P400 S

04.jpg

The Miura P400 was the first supercar by Lamborghini and maybe the first of the world. It was presented at the 1966 Geneva Salon and was an instant success with its unique look and especially with the placement of its engine, mounted just behind the passenger compartment.

Beautiful design of Marcello Gandini, one of my favourite car !

Estimate price : $US 1,200,000. More info on Goodingco.com

1965 Maserati Mistral Spider

05.jpg

Penned by Pietro Frua, the Maserati Mistral is beautiful GT launched in 1963 in order to succeed to the 3500 GT. The model Spider convertibles was produced in only 125 examples. It seems the perfect car for the Californian roads 😀

Estimate price : $US 575,000. More info on Goodingco.com

1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8-Litre Coupe

06.jpg

The Jaguar E-Type Series 1 was presented at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. Enzo Ferrari was even rumoured to have told "the most beautiful car ever made" and still considered as the sexiest car of the 60's.

Estimate price : $US 140,000. More info on Goodingco.com

1973 Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS Coupé

07.jpg

The Maserati Ghibli was presented as a prototype during the Turin Motor show in 1966. It was named after a hot wind of the Libyan desert and not. This Ghibli Coupé was the first version, a V8 Grand Tourer produced between 1966 and 1973. Nothing to do with the 90's version.

Estimate price : $US 250,000. More info on Goodingco.com

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window Coupe

08.jpg

For the 10th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette, the Corvette Sting Ray, also known Corvette C2 (2nd generation of the Chevrolet sports car) was designed by Larry Shinoda, American automotive designer known for the Sting Ray and the Ford Mustang. One of the most beautiful American car (in my opinion)...

Estimate price : $US 150,000. More info on Goodingco.com

line_hive.jpg

1964 Shelby Cobra 289

And finally the only unfinished car in Silver :

09.jpg

The Shelby Cobra 289 was the idea of Carroll Shelby, American driver racing in Europe in the 50's and automotive designer. He wanted a car with a combination of an American muscle engine with an European design for his own race car. Nicely restored in 2000's, this example must be a thrill to drive with his Ford 289 V-8 engine.

Estimate price : $US 900,000. More info on Goodingco.com

Which car would you leave with ? All 😀
