25 Schilling (Carl Michael Ziehrer, 1972)

Back with another Austrian coin from my collection. Unfortunately, some idiot that owned it before me had the genius idea to polish with sandpaper or something and really fucked up the obverse:

Yeah, the coin has seen some better days 😄

The guy depicted is Carl Michael Ziehrer:

Carl Michael Ziehrer (more rarely spelled Karl Michael Ziehrer) (2 May 1843 – 14 November 1922) was an Austrian composer. In his lifetime, he was one of the fiercest rivals of the Strauss family; most notably Johann Strauss II and Eduard Strauss. source

Never heard of him before getting the coin, but he had a cool mustache I will give him that:

This is a commemorative coin issued in 1972 for the 50th Anniversary since his death.

Like the other Austrian coins I have shown you the reverse is pretty standard:

Here we have the flags of the various Austrian states, the denomination (25 schillings) and in Latin it reads

REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH

For

Republic of Austria

Fortunately this side is in much better condition. I guess whoever started polishing figured they are a dumbass midway through

And finally, moving on the edge..

FUENFUNDZWANZIG SCHILLING

For

Twenty Five Shillings

Yeah, just the denomination. Not much creativity here 😅

When it comes to silver we have a decent purity of 0.800 with a total weight of 13 g. That's 10.5 of pure silver with a today's melting value of ~ 8.2 g.

This piece is not among my favorites that's for sure, and I guess it fits more someone that is a fun of the guy. The only reason I picked it was because it was close to spot :)

Ok, time to put this baby back to its plastic prison:

I guess it's fitting to close this post with some music by Ziehrer

Ok plebs, see you soon with more silver!
