KOMSCO, the official mint of South Korea, produced this medallion series. They have chosen Chiwoo Cheonwang as the historical figure to celebrate the country’s first-ever Silver bullion series. Chiwoo Cheonwang is revered for both his skill, endurance, or ingenuity and other historical feats and the folklore tales attributed to him. He is known in both the Korean and Chinese cultures.

In Korean mythology, Chiwoo is known as the God of War. He rules a vast empire and protect his kingdom from the forces of evil, both from the mortal and immortal realms. The design of his battle shield features the horrific figure of Do ggae bi, a beast similar to the hobgoblin of Western cultures.
