Benjamin Franklin Half Dollar Coin

Benjamin Franklin 90% Silver Half Dollar was minted from 1948 until 1964. Franklin's right-profile portrait was created by mint engraver John R. Sinnock.


The reverse side of the Franklin Half Dollars depicts the Liberty Bell, an iconic landmark of Franklin's hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The small American bald eagle in found on the right of the Liberty Bell as stipulated by U.S. laws.


Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Franklin D. Roosevelt, all presidents were depicted in coins. Ben Franklin is the fifth person and first non-president to be honored by the issuance of a regular-issue United States coin.




Benjamin Franklin was born January 17 1706, Boston, Massachusetts and died April 17, 1790, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was an American printer and publisher, author, inventor and scientist, and diplomat. One of the foremost of the Founding Fathers, Ben Franklin helped draft the Declaration of Independence and was one of its signers. He represented the United States in France during the American Revolution, and was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention.




He made important contributions to science, especially in the understanding of electricity, and is remembered for the wit, wisdom, and elegance of his writing.
