2022 THE GREAT SEAL – 1 Troy Ounce

I cannot but rave over the strike of these rounds. The obverse and reverse of the round I will show you is outstanding!

The fields (or the flat portion of a coin’s or round's surface not used for design or inscription) are remarkable, not to mention the other parts of the design.

2022 The Great Seal, Intaglio Mint – 1 Troy Ounce

Contains 1 oz. Troy of .999 Fine Silver

Obverse: A bald eagle, the national bird and symbol of the United States. Above the eagle is a radiant cluster of 13 stars arranged in a six-pointed star. The eagle’s breast is covered by a heraldic shield with 13 stripes that resemble those on the American flag. As on the first US flag, the stars and stripes stand for the 13 original states of the union. The eagle holds a ribbon in its beak reading “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, a Latin phrase meaning “Out of many [states], one [nation]”, a de facto motto of the United States (and the only one until 1956). Both the phrases “E Pluribus Unum” and “Annuit coeptis” contain 13 letters. In its left talons the eagle holds 13 arrows, and in its right talons it holds an olive branch with 13 leaves and 13 olives, representing, respectively, the powers of war and peace.

Reverse: A barren landscape dominated by an unfinished pyramid of 13 steps, topped by the Eye of Providence within a triangle. At the base of the pyramid are engraved the Roman numerals MDCCLXXVI (1776), the date of American independence from Britain. At the top of the seal stands a Latin phrase, “ANNUIT COEPTIS,” meaning “He favors our undertaking.” At the bottom of the seal is a semicircular banner proclaiming “NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM” meaning “New Order of the Ages” that is a reference to the new American era.

This is a $1 bill from 1935.

And below is a current $1 bill. There is hardly a change in it, except for the word "In God We Trust".

The national symbol of the United States is The Great Seal. It is authoritative visible sign of our independent Nation and self-government.

It was used first in 1782. The seal is used to guarantee and authenticate certain papers and documents issued by the federal government of the United States. It is used in proclamations, treaties, warrants, and commissions of high officials of the Government.

The coat of arms is used on official documents (such as the United States passports, military insignia) embassy placards, and various flags.

The Seal of the President of the United States is directly based on the Great Seal, and its various elements are in many government agency and state seals.

Since 1935, both sides of the Great Seal have appeared on the reverse of the one-dollar bill.
