What if the ownership of assets became the new Cool Things to indicate success?

Assest as the Status Symbol

  • What is instead of Bored Ape Avatars, successful cryptocurrency investors displayed how much Bitcoin they owned.
  • What if, in stead of ROlexs and Lambos, NFTs showing ownership of rental houses owned became the new status symbol?
  • What would a cultural change like that do to the motivations of the young, and not so young to learn about income producing assets?

Debt as the root of Debt Slavery

  • Many like to equate being deeply in debt, and thus locked into a job which we might hate, but it pays our bills, as debt slavery.
  • To this definition they also add the lack of freedom to change jobs, change cities, change schools, and the lack of the ability to stop paying 30% of your monthly income towards debt repayment.
  • Now while many find this comparison of being in debt to actual slavery abhorrent, as slavery is one of the most horrible things which can happen to you. Modern peoples have not mental framework for the horrors of slavery, so this comparison persists.
  • But I digress.
  • Debt has many negative effects on peoples lives, careers, home budgets, and freedom to change jobs, professions, and or where you live and who you work with.

Consumer Product Purchase and the Brag nation

  • Next I feel that the large scale purchase of consumer good that most people don't actually need, creates debt, which harms people.
  • I think that many purchases are attempts at status attainment.
  • An attempt to convince people in your social orbit on FaceBook, Instagram, YouTube, Hive or Twitter that you are successful.
  • And unsurprisingly the display of these items like Rolex watches, Lambdo sport cars, Bored Ape NVT Avatars.
  • To me they are all status symbols, which represent dollars spent on them and not on assets.

So I ask the question...what if assets became the new status symbol?

  • What if the avatar type display of rental homes owned, multifamily units owned, savings bonds owned, or divividend paying stock ownership displays became the next status symbol.
  • What a monumental change in our culture would ensue..
  • basically, instead of glorifying the ownership of depreciating assets like cars, clothes, watches, jewlry and expensive NFTs, we glorify asset ownership.
  • We would be transformed from a nation of debtors to a nation of savers and asset holders.
  • I think the economic ramifications of the majority of the population investing in assets would be a monumental change, which would improve the financial health of people monumentally.

What do you think?

  • Do you agree?
  • Do you think it would be a good thing?
