Splinterlands - When did you get hooked?

Splinterlands continues to go from strength to strength and there are many new players coming in and investing at the moment.

What I'd like to know is, when did you start and what got you started on your Splinterlands journey?

Here's how it happened for me......

I have been engaging in a number of different groups since joining Steem back in 2017. One of the people that engaged with me early was @cryptomancer. Through some mutual associations, @cryptomancer gifted me a starter pack in what was Steemmonsters back then and some cards way back in the alpha cards days (only a few weeks or so after Splinterlands game play started).

Now I know his ultimate play here was to get me engaged and playing the game and get another person hooked and investing. Initially I was suspect and didn't engage straight away, but when I finally did I was hooked.

Beta cards followed shortly afterwards and that was where I really started accumulating. Remember when daily rewards were Beta Card Packs? That was a time to get your card numbers built each day. Lots of bots were built and in the early days people really gamed the system, which I am sure is paying dividends at the moment for those who held their assets. The $TRON promo then occurred to start the Promo cards. I watched Beta Packs sell out and Untamed then arrive and Orbs and now Dice cards come and go.

Guilds have been another important factor in ensuring engagement with other game players and being rewarded for pooling resources to max your guild. Definitely worthwhile joining a strong guild with the Roaring Twenties being by far the best guild!

This game has evolved over time and daily rewards and tournaments have evolved as well. Probably the most engaging thing for me in Splinterlands was the introduction of $DEC as the in-game currency. This meant that I could earn rewards for each successful match and then trade this on the open market for Hive or any other crypto. This was a real game changer for me and I have watched the price of $DEC rise and fall. Now with the introduction of rentals and the significant growth in the user base, $DEC has increased in price and is bringing great returns to early investors.

As players wait for the release of the Chaos Legion card set and lands, investing some amounts into this game over the past few years has really paid dividends.

Land Plots were offered at $20 a piece and are already sitting at over $500 - a 2500% increase in price since they were launched and they are not even in the game yet.

So how did you get hooked?
What are you most looking forward to from this game in the future?

Keep stacking those DEC as we look forward to the new packs and lands release in the future.

Thanks for reading.
