Today I want to describe to you the process I have started with a group of people who decided to launch a new DAO. I hope it illustrates one way to do so for those having the same idea in mind.
A few months ago, I saw a tweet mentioning a small group of people in Catalonia, northeast Spain was intending to create a new DAO. They created a very basic webpage with a Typeform to fill in and launched a Discord server. I joined quite early as by coincidence I had met in person one of the promoters of the initiative and little by little more and more people is joining the "informal" initial group.
The people who launched and some of the first ones to join are quite experienced in crypto, but there are many others who have no experience in DAOs and not too much in crypto itself so the group is starting to be quite diverse which is very interesting.
The first discussions started around what would be the mission, how to set up a formal webpage, and which DAO governance framework we could use, and then a nice opportunity came in when Gitcoin Grants launched its recent 11 round which ends September 23rd. For those not familiar with Gitcoin, it is a service offering anyone launching a crypto/ethereum related project to request donations, they became themselves a DAO a few months ago releasing its governance token with an airdrop to those who had been involved with the service in the past. They match the donations a project gets with additional funds using quadratic funding, the amount received with this method depends on the type of project being launched. After Gitcoin present round ends we intend to launch the governing tools for the DAO selection from the different options in the market as Aragon DAO framework, 1hive Gardens, Daohaus etc.
And once that is set up, all decisions will start being voted by the group which will finally be a formal DAO.
