Personal Progress Update - Q3 2022 (Splinterlands, Scholar and Scribe, Freewriters, Weekend Experiences and More)

It's time for another quarterly stocktake of my blogging adventures on Hive.

As a quick introduction, I made my first post on 29 Sep 2021 and it was an introductory post about my Splinterlands journey. Since then, it has been around 1 year and I have been actively posting and curating on Hive.

And I just want to say how grateful I am to be making friends within this community and receiving so much support, be it in the form of upvotes, comments, or even sharing of new knowledge.

So here's what I have been busy with over the past 3 months (in order of my involvement):

  • Splinterlands: I have continued with my Splinterlands-related postings, including the weekly challenges, crunching card probabilities and statistics, and free card delegations! Feel free to check them out under my posts if you are in need of card delegations!
  • Scholar and Scribe: S&S is a community about creative writing and I have been posting my weekly chapters of my story (The Legend of Doria) over there and I can't believe I have completed all 52 chapters! Thanks to everyone for all your support, whether you have been silently reading the chapters or have interacted with me over the comments. I have gotten to know some talented writers over in the Discord and it's really a fun place to be! There are many writing contests and I am glad to say that I have been sponsoring some of the prizes too! In this quarter, I also had the chance to be one of the judges for one of the monthly writing contests. You can read about my experience here.
  • Freewriters: I have been diligently writing ZapFic entries for the Monday and Friday editions and I was extremely glad to be recognised as the winners/runners-up in a few of my entries.
  • Weekend Experiences: This was something new I discovered in Q2 during my random browsing of the Hive posts, and has now become one of my weekend posts. I really enjoyed challenging myself to come up with something interesting to share for the weekly prompts and I enjoyed reading other sharings within the community to. Finally, the curation committee are very generous with all the rewards when they see writers putting in effort to write a good post!
  • Liotes: This was a project that I chanced upon during my time in Hive and I found the concept very interesting. So far I have joined the weekly missions, bought LENM to mine LEN tokens, and delegated HP to @liotes.voter. Hopefully this project will do well in the future. For Q3, I have also advanced to the rank of Wind Maker! So that's a nice achievement.
  • Workerbee Staking: This was also another project that I came across in Q2. By staking WORKERBEE tokens with @ph1102, you get BEE tokens in return and some additional rewards too. Feel free to take a look at his latest post for more details. In this quarter, I bought more WORKERBEE tokens and delegated them to him because the results were good!

I was also delighted to receive high votes for two of my posts during this quarter. Thanks again to everyone who has showed your support by upvoting my posts.

Out of curiosity, I decided to look at PeakD Analytics to see who has been voting my posts and comments. For Q3, I have the most votes from these 3 supporters!

As a token of my appreciation, I will be transferring 3 HBD, 2 HBD and 1 HBD respectively to my top 3 supporters!

Now onto the financial aspects of my blogging experience, here's what I have accumulated so far as of 5 Oct 2022 (at time of writing).

Hive Wallet

TokenAmountPriceUSD
HP9730.491477.74
HBD5080.981498.34
Total976.08

This has been an amazing quarter in terms of the accumulation of HP and HBD. For Q3, I have accumulated 441 more HP and 191 more HBD in my Hive Wallet. Apart from the rewards from postings, I have also traded/converted some Layer 2 tokens into Hive this quarter and this contributed an additional 54 Hive. I have also withdrawn 25 HBD for my Coffee Fund (which is elaborated below). All in all, my Hive Wallet has grown from USD 545.39 in the last quarter to USD 976.08 currently.

  • Coffee Fund: 27 HBD (+25 HBD)

In the last quarter, I also explored the steps on how to cash out from Hive into the platforms such as Metamask or Crypto.com wallet should the need arises in the future, and I made some test transactions and transferred 2 HBD out of Hive.

This quarter, I decided to formalise this process as my personal funding for my Coffee Fund! The topic of profit-taking has been in my mind to reward myself and I have been spending some thought on how to do it in a sustainable way, as I still want to be heavily involved in the Hive community.

So after exploring various options, I have decided to withdraw only my HBD interest as "profits" on a quarterly basis. Since HBD is going at 20% APR, it would be around 5% of my HBD each quarter. For Q3, this worked out to be 25 HBD. As to why it's called the Coffee Fund, it's because I am going to use the money to buy myself coffee while I write my posts or think of writing ideas at the cafe. Hehe!

Hive Engine Wallet
*only included tokens with substantial values, i.e. top 5 tokens

WORKERBEE106.66Investment (Funded with 8.54 HBD in Q2 2022)

Total65.67

Have included a column this time to provide a description of the tokens so that it helps me keep track of my involvement in various projects.

Like I have mentioned before, unlike Hive and HBD, tribe tokens in the Hive Engine Wallet are more susceptible to massive price swings and have poorer liquidity, so these USD values are just for reference (i.e. likely lesser if I would to divest all at one go). This is also why I have separated the totals between the Hive Wallet and Hive Engine Wallet.

As mentioned above, I have continued to divest some Layer 2 tokens, and convert them to Hive. There are two main reasons to this. The first reason is because I realise most of the Hive Engine are seeing a decline in value (in terms of Hive). The second reason is converting to Hive not only helps to preserve some value (from the price decline), it also boosts my vote power and allows me to vote on good posts regardless of the tribe tags.

Grand Total (excluding Coffee Fund): 1,041.75

Finally, the grand total increased to USD 1,041.75 from USD 687.54 a quarter ago. I guess you could say there's some steady progress. :)

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead! See you in the Q4 update!
