$2.7 Million Instagram Bored Ape Phishing Hack

So this hack can not come as a shock to me or anyone, these are things that were expected because, Bored Ape NFTs grew to become one of the most expensive and most influential NFTs in the NFT and crypto space. It’s not possible to be that successful without experiencing hacks and attempted hacks. Bored ape in the past has given their investors and holders lots of airdrops which has made the demand for the NFTs really high. Imagine getting over $300,000 worth of assets just for holding a bored ape NFT. Yeah, Expect hackers to try and get some.

Holders are used to getting notifications on how to claim airdrops for holding their Bored Ape NFTs, this is something hackers have learnt to use on their victims. Yuga Labs, the devs responsible for the Bored ape creation have given Bored ape NFT holders Kennel NFTs, serum NFTs to mint mutant apes and airdropped thousands of ape tokens, all because they owned a bored ape. The next airdrop that is being anticipated in the community is the Land airdrop. This a tactic hackers are utilizing and using it on their victims, this time they are going after the bored ape yacht club official social media account.

You know how we are always advised to alway click links from the verified social media accounts of the platform we are investing to avoid clicking phishing links, the hackers decided to hack the social media accounts of these platforms, this is the best way to phish victims. Because, these victims clicked on these links because of the trust they had on the social media account, the trust and confidence that comes with thinking that everything that comes from the social media account is legit is the reason they clicked on those links and got hacked. There was no better ways to be careful, Bored ape just needs to get their social media account security right to prevent further hacks that will lead to investors getting phished.

In a space of less than 4 weeks they have gotten their Discord and Instagram account hacked , though I don’t know how many people lost or how much was lost during the Discord hack. But the Instagram hack got over $2 Million worth of NFTs hacked. Victims of the NFTs are obviously furious and angry because this was not their fault, this hacker got a website that looked like the bored ape airdrop website, asked them to connect their wallet and grant the site permission to the wallet before they claim these airdrops and phished their wallets. Some of these victims are considering suing Yuga labs, they just need someone to pay for their loss and I don’t blame them for that.
