Cash Withdrawal Problem | The Biggest Fear Of Bank Customers

Some days can be more dramatic than others but the worst happens when we are faced with anything that threatens our finance.

Well, that was exactly what happened yesterday. I experienced a very unpleasant financial incident. The type that is becoming a new normal for people that have money in the bank. The thing with banks in this part of the world is, it's very easy for customers to make deposit but it's not often as easy to withdraw the money.

This is all thanks to the very poor performance of these banks. Sometimes, l can't help but wonder if they truly care about rendering the best grade of service to their customers.

Just yesterday, I had a taste of their ridiculous service when l tried to transfer money to a friend.

I tried all possible options from the use of USSD code to the use of mobile App. l also decided to visit the nearest POS terminal but the transaction was still unsuccessful. At this stage, l knew that the last alternative would be to visit the bank.

It took less than 30 minutes for me to get to the bank. On reaching there, what l saw made me sigh in disbelief. It seemed as if the banks were on a mission to completely piss me off.

What the!
I couldn't scream. I just joined the crowd to know what the issue was. It was as if we were experiencing a bank run -The type that can completely crumble any banking system in the world.

A bank run occurs in a situation where a large number of bank customers withdraw their funds continuously until the point where the bank reserve would not be enough to cover withdrawals.

I walked into the bank premises, only to realise that nothing was going on.

  • No intra-bank transfer
  • No inter-bank transfer
  • No withdrawal via ATM
  • No withdrawal Over the Counter

People were furious but still maintained a high level of discipline while patiently waiting for a miracle to occur. A MIRACLE! - That's the hardest part for me to absorb.

The bank staffs were complacent about the whole ordeal. They balanced in their well-ventilated banking hall without making any visible attempt to make things right. All we got was some generic stuff about network problem or so -whatever they meant by that was not yielding any fruit.

Truth be told, this is not my first experience of this ridiculously bullshit. I've had worse experience in the past and l was not ready to join the multitude so, l bid them farewell and went back to continue my daily activities.

Yesterday is gone but what will happen tomorrow?

I just don't know when these so-called "network issues" would be completely resolved in the banking system.
