Al tratarse de un videojuego para la GBA sus controles son bastante simples y fáciles de aprender, contamos con los controles de movimientos básicos en donde las flechas de dirección vertical nos servirán para saltar cuando estamos al nivel del suelo y para desplazarnos por el aire cuando el personaje está volando o levitando en el campo de batalla. Con los dos botones de la GBA podremos hacer dos ataques cuerpo a cuerpo diferentes, un ataque básico rápido con poco daño y un ataque más contundente el cual demora más tiempo en realizarlo pero que causa un mayor daño además de empujar hacia atrás al enemigo.

Mediante la combinación de los pocos botones se puede realizar ataques y movimientos diferentes, al presionar los dos botones de ataque al mismo tiempo y manteniéndolos presionados se puede bloquear los ataques enemigos pero bloquear de manera seguida provocara que se rompa la defensa y con ello quedemos en un estado de desmayo durante un breve periodo de tiempo y de esa manera ser vulnerables a todos los ataques enemigos, al combinar los botones de ataque con el gatillo para recarga KI se pueden realizar ataques de energía, ataques rápidos que causan poco daño y consumen poco KI y ataques más potentes pero que consumen más KI por ataque, algunos personajes como la Androide 18 cuentan con la mecánica de no requerir gastar KI para dichos ataques de energía por lo cual puedes estar haciendo estos ataques de manera continúan sin tener que recargar el KI. A pesar de un videojuego para la GBA, Dragon Ball Z - Supersonic Warriors cuenta con una buena variedad de modos de juego además de contar con varias rutas en el modo historia, cuenta con el modo VS para combates rápido, modo Torneo, Modo por equipo, modo entrenamiento el cual se divide en un modo de practica en donde combatiremos contra un enemigo que no se mueve y tiene vida ilimitada para de esa manera probar todos los combos, el modo entrenamiento también cuenta con un modo tutorial en el cual nos enseñaran paso a paso todos los ataques, movimientos, combos y la utilidad de cada botón en el videojuego e incluso un modo multijugador mediante el cable LINK.

En el modo historia tendremos una gran cantidad de personajes para escoger y completar su propia historia por separado, podremos escoger tanto a los personajes principales como lo son Goku, Vegueta, Gohan, así como personajes secundarios como Krilin e incluso a los villanos como lo son Cell y Freezer. Un aspecto bastante llamativo de este videojuego será todo el contenido disponible para desbloquear, en las opciones existe el apartado de "Tienda" y en la misma podremos comprar una gran cantidad de contenido adicional como lo son los diferentes personajes en varios niveles de poder, historias de personajes, niveles de dificultad, audios y mucho más, todo este contenido bloqueado lo podremos ir desbloqueando al usar los puntos o monedas que iremos obteniendo a medida que vamos completando los diferentes modos de juegos, tanto las diferentes historias en el modo historia como los tórnenos o combates en duelo, debido a esto deberemos de jugar y completar una gran parte del juego para de esa manera lograr desbloquear todo el contenido disponible e incluso lograr conseguir la máxima dificultad para jugar.
