Historically, major advances in society have not only been driven by the intrinsic characteristics of the proposals themselves but also because the current state of affairs is starting to get out of hand, is anachronistic, and in many respects unbearable. This is what in my view is reflected in the pronouncement of the US Treasury Department, according to which the lack of regulation of cryptocurrencies undermines its system of sanctions against certain countries that they consider threats to national security.
In analyzing this news item, I have made an effort to move away as much as possible from any prejudice, since being in a sanctioned country (Venezuela) what I can say in all the time that these sanctions have been present is that the real harmed are the citizens not the rulers nor those who are the great absentees here: the politicians.
Having made this clarification, I would like to highlight a couple of points in this pronouncement, which, while they may have some truth to them, are the desperate cries of a highly centralized system that, to use their own words, is threatened.

Al analizar esta noticia, he hecho un esfuerzo por apartarme lo más posible de todo prejuicio, ya que estando en un país sancionado (Venezuela) lo que puedo decir en todo el tiempo en que estas sanciones han estado presente es que los verdaderos perjudicados somos los ciudadanos no los gobernantes ni los que aquí son los gran ausentes: los políticos.
Hecha esta aclaración, quiero destacar un par de puntos de este pronunciamiento, que si bien pueden tener algo de verdad, son los gritos desesperados de un sistema altamente centralizado que, por usar sus propias palabras, se ve amenazado.

The reason for this is that cryptocurrencies, backed by blockchain technology, are decentralized, i.e. there is no entity that is manipulating them from behind, even anyone can be a guarantor of its proper functioning, given its distributed, immutable, and transparent nature.

A mi parecer, esta es la excusa perfecta para atacar a lo que de verdad se teme, la descentralización que supone la tecnología blockchain, pues, si de verdad la preocupación son los malos actores el enfoque debería estar más en cómo hacer para ejercer un real y efectivo control sobre los mismos no sobre lo que estos pueden usar, ya que más bien la transparencia de la blockchain es una aliada para hacer un seguimiento de sus acciones.
- La preocupación también está en que con el auge de las criptomonedas el papel del dolar a escala mundial se disminuye. Y aquí creo está el punto central. El verdadero temor es que ya el dólar no está siendo el mayor referente para las transacciones financieras, de hecho, con su progresiva inflación ya son muchos los actores, incluso institucionales, que han cambiado totalmente su paradigma, pongamos como ejemplo el caso de Tesla que ha hecho una gran inversión en Bitcoin.

In conclusion, it seems to be out of place that with the excuses of sanctions, cryptocurrencies are once again being attacked, especially when they are helping many people to face the problems that these foreign policy actions end upbringing to the daily life of citizens and little, if anything, to those who should put pressure on them.
For this reason, I see the solution as choosing the blockchain, which is what the Treasury Department itself should do, as an ally in its fight against these acts, and not as an enemy. For my part, I have already made my choice.

Por eso, la vía de solución la veo más en eligir la blockchain, incluso es lo que debería hacer el mismo departamento del Tesoro, como una aliada en su lucha contra estos actos, y no como una enemiga. Por mi parte, ya yo hice mi elección.
