Social Awareness

Social awareness is the degree to which an individual is able to identify with and understand the view points and needs of others. While it is important to understand and manage your own emotions, you also need to know how to read others emotions. As an entrepreneur, social awareness is the degree to which you can be able to identify with and understand the view points and needs of your employees emotions and the dynamics in play within your organization. Bosses who excel in social awareness practices empathy. Empathy helps individuals become compassionate. An empathetic and compassionate person often has a high level of emotional intelligence. He/she is simply better at connecting with others on an emotional level because he/she strive to understand and recognize their employee/colleagues/shareholders feelings and perspective, which enables them to communicate and collaborate more effectively with them. He/she is able to respond genuinely to others' concerns and issues.

Empathy is rated number one leadership skill and it is established that a leader who masters empathy performs well in coaching, engaging others and decision making. Possessing empathy is crucial to an entrepreneur who manages a business or team of employees, as you need to take the time to develop and understand the people in your organization. You need to recognize the body language and feelings of those around you and should be able to act accordingly in any given situation. In a study, researches found out that, entrepreneurs with high emotional intelligence are more likely to stay calm under pressure, resolve conflicts effectively, and respond to co-workers/employees/investors with empathy. By communicating with empathy, you can better support your team of employees while improving your own performance. If you lack empathy or emotional intelligence, it is highly possible that your employees do not like working with you. Your behavior would simply not allow you see past your own biases and prejudices. You will find out that your employees are never motivated. Entrepreneurs with high emotional intelligence tends make their employees highly motivated, success driven, committed, resilient, optimistic and take initiatives to tackle issues. As an entrepreneur who is eager to achieve success, he/she must be socially aware, in other to understand his/her employees better, which will result to better performance from your employees, thus, better performance for the organization as a whole.
