Among new implementations in Hardfork 25 Equilibrium was to limit HBD interest payouts to only HBD in Savings. Paying interest on HBD is not too old either, it only started in March 2021. We have seen how main beneficiaries of HBD interest payouts were exchanges and hive decentralized fund before HF-25. Let's take a look how interest payouts changed after the hardfork and below you can also see the top 100 HBD interest payouts list.
When Hive started paying interest in March, initially top witnesses agreed on 3%. This APR remained at 3% until HF-25, and afterwards it changed to 10%. I am not quite sure if the actual current APR is at 10%. Majority of the top witnesses have changed their APR parameter to 10%. However, some have changed to 12%, some to 7%, and one to 5%.
It is not clear to me if the final APR is set based on average of the value top witnesses set or based on majority rule. If you know how exactly this calculation works, please share the knowledge in the comments.
In March total interest payout was 10,429 HBD to 6415 accounts.
In April total interest payout increased to 12,208 HBD to 7106 accounts.
In May total interest payout increased again to 16,574 HBD to 7250 accounts.
In June total interest payout almost doubled to 36,883 HBD to 7167 accounts.
All these months from March to July main recipients of the interest payouts were Hive Decentralized Fund and exchanges like Upbit and Bittrex. Since these accounts hold large amounts of liquid HBD for operational purposes, this makes sense. Now that only HBD in Savings can receive interest payouts, this has changed for the month of July.
In July total interest payout decreased to 1,696 HBD to 682 accounts. One account - @mika, received 72% of the total payouts in the amount of 1,230 HBD. It seems like Mika really likes the new changes, and taking full advantage of the high HBD APR. Well played!
It also look like some other users are also experimenting with the HBD interests and transferring to Savings. It is too early to say if these high HBD APR will be attractive enough for people to consider this as a passive income.
