NFT has just started spreading it's tentacles. Almost everything can be converted into NFT. And so virtual lands and the virtual life experience like Sims, Second life type simulatory environment are close to closing deals with various blockchain NFTs.
Recently I came across new NFT project which allows users to sell, rent and the lend the land on virtual simulations. And the transactions were done by the NFT and the in game currency.
Decentraland is one such type of the NFT project. The project is ETH based as in ERC721 token which has the backend of this NFT. It has some unique NFTs and the items inside that you can work with while you stay in this environment.

Decentraland is pretty interesting marketplace to buy land, in-land items and the other NFT items. The amount of new things and the potential of this taking off could be strong. I am not sure if any game dev companies plan on reaching this concept.
Future of Land based NFT in Games?
What if say Final fantasy ends up having the land based NFT and option to explore the world without any quest or even for any end of level type stuff. Instead if it becomes an open world with lands and the characters?
If that happens then the amount of the options this sort of the NFT can do for the consumers would be endless. Many people want to be in the world of the lands in the games where they want to live or spend some time in those maps and the lifestyle.
Is it worth investing?
I am not sure. If it takes me into the land of resident evil, sims, second life or any other game world where I want to rent or sell the land and the stuff. That would be something I wait for.
Currently at this stage as a prototype I'd say decentralized is good enough. But it's not for me. I wont be investing into this type of the NFT. But other people may like it and even consider purchasing NFTs there.
