The disappearing dev - risks in reputational investing

BroFi is down, and taskmanager is missing. Taskmanager managed to put out a lot of code, even if he was a bit flaky, we enjoyed him and understood that he had a life outside of the internet blockchain world.

Today it seems like @taskmanager is disappeared, it could even be a rug, I don't know. I want to walk you through in this post what we do know. And what lessons there are to be learned from this.

Brofi birth, life and death.

I think BroFi was a really good idea, and it was TM's idea and he coded it up, basically it worked like this:

Users delegate to an account, @brofi. That account votes on posts and earns curation.

Curation rewards are used to buy BRO. BRO is distributed to delegators.

People enjoyed @brofi as a place they could send any old token and at least eek some dust out of them. Each type of token (pool) was voted on by BRO stake to be ranked. The top pool got half the daily BRO payout, while the second got a quarter, the third got an eighth, the fourth a 1/16th, and so on an so forth.

By the rule of halfing, the lower pools didn't really earn much at all, but they didn't really bring much value to the program either. The top spots were really important, what BRO's should be valuing would be the pools that brought the most value to the program.

During the life of the program, there were some questions about how well the bot was actually curating, it was certainly far from a perfect curator but it did vote around.

Now, its automation has stopped.

BRO of course continues - still asset backed and run by @raymondspeaks. It seems there is some interest to rebuild BroFi - maybe even better than before!

Archon

@taskmanager was the Grand Archon, he invented the tribe and had all the power in terms of accounts and tokens. He still has the accounts, but in fact, he does not hold that many of the tokens after all this time, it was always a low supply tribe. Lots of the automation from ARCHON has stopped now as well, perhaps not all of it. For example, the last @archon-mining report was February 12. The last HIVE payout from an ARCHONM miner was three days ago.

The Proof of brain mechanism for ARCHON will continue to run, assuming @upfundme account has HP, and I just want to say right now that I am hoping we can salvage something from ARCHON in the form of a very active community of contests that are basically independent.

If we ever do more automation, which I really like to do, it would have to be open sourced code or at least open access code to a larger group of people. TM was perhaps not very good at github so..... there is no code.

UTOPIS

According to the reports, @bala41288 has been doing the distributions now for some time, there should be no disruption in service there.

DHEDGE

DHEDGE drips seem to have stopped four or five days ago.

I recently checked the account for NAV and found at least 0.07 HIVE per token in assets backing the program. The last time I checked, which might be more than two months ago, it was 0.13.

Is this poorly performing and failing automation? Or is this manual malfeasance? I can't be sure, and I don't know.

I have asked @raymondspeaks to get his data guy AMR to dig into the matter. The list of accounts being @discohedge, @dhedge-drips and @tmholdings.

What do we do now?

That is the question. I think its likely that ARCHON can fare better than DHEDGE, but its a blow to both projects. Taskmanager could reappear any minute - or never appear again. The blockchain doesn't lie however.
