New Hive Accounts | Total Created, Claimed And Top Creators | October 2022

After the great 2021 that was a record year for new Hive accounts, 2022 is a year with much smaller numbers. The overall downtrend in the crypto market and Hive is making the demand for new Hive accounts to go down as well.
Hive accounts have a readable usernames, unlike the random strings on Ethereum or Bitcoin wallets. This human readable name comes at costs as it takes up resources. Creating new Hive accounts is the most expensive operation on the Hive blockchain and it can be done with a lot of Resource Credits (RCs), meaning a lot of Hive Power, or just paying the fee that the blockchain has for creating new accounts.

The fee for creating new Hive accounts is a parameter set by the witnesses and at the moment it costs 3 HIVE. With the volatility of the HIVE price sometimes it is a challenge to price these things.

The option for creating accounts with RCs, or sometimes perceived as the free accounts require users to first claim account as an account token, that can be then used for creating accounts. Not all claimed accounts are created. Claimed accounts are not transferable yet.

Here we will be looking into the following:

  • Number of accounts created per day
  • Number of accounts created per month and year
  • Total accounts created
  • Claimed VS Created accounts
  • Top accounts creators
  • Top accounts claims

For context we will be looking at the period from the very beginning of the chain, March 2016 till today., with a focus on 2022

Number Of Accounts Created

Here is the chart for the overall accounts created.

image001.png

Here we can see the two spikes in the overall period of Hive existence. First in 2017, especially towards the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018. The second spike is in September 2021 where on occasions there was more than 20k accounts created in a day.

If we zoom in 2022 we get this:

image003.png

A steady downtrend from 1k to around 200 accounts created daily in the last period.

The monthly chart for new accounts looks like this:

image007.png

January has the highest number of new account, with 21k, while in the last month there is around 5k accounts created per month.

Just to note that in 2021 in the period August – October, there was more than 200k accounts created per month and Splinterlands burned more than 2M HIVE for creating Hive accounts.

Total Accounts Created

When we sum the above, we get this.

image005.png

We can see here the increase in the numbers of accounts in 2017, when the accounts number reached more than 1M. Then a period with a gradual increase and then even steeper growth in 2021, and now again a slow down. At the moment there is 2.4M Hive accounts.

As we have seen from the recent post on active hive accounts, on a monthly basis there is around 400k active accounts, most of which are Splinterlands players, while the number of accounts that post is around 12k per month.

Ona a yearly basis the numbers looks like this.

image009.png

2021 seems hard to beat 😊. Almost 1M accounts created in that year.

In 2022, up until October we have around 90k accounts created. Until the end of the year, we will probably finish somewhere around 100k accounts. It will be better than the worst 2020, when there was 70k accounts for the year.

Claimed VS Created Accounts

Claimed accounts are like sort of a buffer of accounts. Accounts with high HP claim accounts that later can be used for accounts creation. Not all claimed accounts are created.
Here is the chart for claimed VS created accounts.

image011.png

There as some oscillations in the number of claimed accounts per day, but overall, the number is around 2100 accounts claimed daily.

The number of accounts created can vary a lot. Starting from August 2021 the number of accounts created surpassed the number of accounts claimed by a lot. In 2022 the number dropped, and it is now around 200 daily created vs 2000 claimed.

If we zoom in 2022 we get this:

image013.png

2022 has been on the low side in terms of accounts created. On average 300 accounts created per day, while the claiming remains at the 2k levels.

A total of 3M accounts was claimed, while somewhere around 620k accounts tokens have been used. This means that users on Hive hold around 2.4M accounts creation tokens.

Top Accounts Creators

Here is who created most of the accounts in the last 30 days.

image016.png

@ocdb is on the top with more than 1.4k accounts created, followed by @steemmonsters and @appreciator.

Top Accounts Claims

At the end the chart for who has claimed most of the accounts in the last 30 days.

image018.png

This chart mostly follows the HP holdings that the accounts have.

@ocdb has is on the top with almost 9500 accounts claimed, followed by the @appreciator account on the second spot. @blocktrades comes on the third spot.

The number of new accounts created in 2022 has dropped significantly after the massive pump in 2021. Splinterlands was the major driver for the creation of new accounts in 2021. In the last period the numbers are down there and now ocd comes on the top.
We will see how will things develop in the next year in the Hive ecosystem as more mature apps come out and there is a demand for accounts. A 2.4M accounts in existence now, and interesting the same number of accounts as claimed account tokens.

All the best
